Bike Calgary
by Gary Millard

That’s why Bike Calgary is taking a multi-pronged approach to reducing bike theft in Calgary. Our strategy has two main components, with several supporting actions. Check back on this blog site for future posts and more information about dealing with bike theft. Make it harder to steal your bike (or easier to recover if it’s stolen) Make it harder to sell stolen bikes (and therefore less desirable to steal them) T ..read more

Bike Calgary recently met with staff from the City’s Parks Pathways department to discuss Snow and Ice Control (SNIC) on the extensive multi-use pathway system. The conversation included the challenges associated with the Chinook weather patterns which typically lead to alternating snow & ice melt – freeze cycles like the ones we are currently experiencing. Winter cyclists must deal with slush and puddles in the afternoon, followed by glassy smooth or rutted ice in the morning. While impacting all pathway users, this morning ice is particularly dangerous to bike riders. For cyclists who re ..read more

Hello All, My name is Brenna and I’m a member and volunteer with Bike Calgary. I have just taken the rather scary step of signing up to speak to the city council in favor of 5A infrastructure for the upcoming budget adjustment meeting on Monday, Nov 20th. After attending the city hall advocacy training session on Thursday with the Calgary Climate Hub, I was inspired to tell my story and I want to share it here, with all of you.  I have been cycling to work almost every day since mid April, and every day I see dog walkers, joggers, bird watchers, fellow cyclists, and parents picking up th ..read more

Bike Calgary

This month the City of Calgary is going through their annual budget adjustments. While that might not sound like the most thrilling event, a big show of support from Bike Calgary members could mean big improvements to Calgary’s bike lane and bike path network! Budget adjustments are where the City chooses which projects should receive funding for the next year (and beyond). The public gets to provide their input on which projects we care about the most. This year, the city is considering a 40 million dollar investment in the bike path network, with more in the future.  We are asking you ..read more

And I’m guessing that you probably also want to see Calgary’s bike infrastructure continue to grow and improve. On the week of November 20th, Calgary City Council will be meeting to review and adjust their budget, and will be voting on m ..read more
