Much of our team has recovered swiftly from Covid-19 (thanks, Pfizer/Moderna!) and we are open for business on a limited basis beginning tomorrow. All repair services require an appointment and appointments for new bike sales are strongly recommended. Our current hours are Wednesday to Saturday 10am - 5pm, please reach out to us by e-mail if your schedule necessitates an after-hours appointment or bike drop-off. Thanks for your patience as we catch up on a couple weeks of busy-season work. We’re doing our best to get the bikes you’ve ordered assembled and in your hands to enjoy the warm sprin ..read more

COVID-19 Closure: April 18 - 23, 2022

We are closed for business for at least one week beginning April 18, 2022 due to all of our staff testing positive for, being symptomatic with, or having been closely exposed to COVID-19. There will be no sales, service, curbside pickup, or web store fulfilment during this time. We masked. We distanced. We served you at the curbside. We worked remotely when possible. We created a mobile repair bike for at-home repairs. It wasn’t enough. We’re taking time to rest, heal, and try to keep the rest of our families safe. If you have an appointment booked this week, it will be canceled, and we will ..read more

Our first-ever NFT offering consists of a digitized graphite on notebook drawing of a bicycle locked to a lamppost. We hope the city installs better bike parking soon. San Jose Public Library, Creative Commons License To celebrate our sixth year in business, we are offering our first-ever non-fungible token (NFT) at auction today! The popularity of this carbon-intensive art form is certain to bring our business in line with recent federal climate goals. Due to the high energy intensity of crypto-technology, buying an NFT (even bicycle-themed ones) emits more carbon pollution than manufacturin ..read more

Happy New Year! Twenty Twenty Two is going to be a great one, with more families than ever embracing the wonderful joys of cargo bike life. Together we made some big steps in growing London’s family cycling community in 2021 (did you attend our cargo bike meet-up?!), and we are excited to start more families down the path to transportation freedom this year. This post is about the “Big Three” internal gear hubs (IGH) found on most of our family cargo bikes and many e-bikes in our store. Technology is changing fast on family bikes, and we want you to feel confident and knowledgeable about yo ..read more

London’s bike culture took some big steps forward in 2021 thanks to the contributions of so many incredible people. We can’t thank you, our community, enough for letting us help you do more on a bike every day. Thank you to all of you who helped show everyone that life is “Better By Bike;” each of you is a leader and a model for others to learn from, and each of you help make the city more bike friendly just by choosing two wheels instead of four. Looking back at your photos from this year, we think this might be the first “Year of the Cargo Bike” here in London. We helped so many families fin ..read more

With Love and Bicycles: A Letter to Our #LdnOntBike Community
London Bicycle Café Blog
by Ben Cowie

Dear #LdnOntBike, Please read ‘til the end, there is no TL;DR here. When I opened London Bicycle Café four and a half years ago, I billed it as a “five year mission” (yes, that’s a Star Trek reference) to transform how Londoners moved around their city. While I knew the climate emergency was coming when I opened the shop, and knew bikes would be an essential part of our city’s solution, I wasn’t quite ready for how fast the devastating effects of global heating would reach us during our first few years. Regardless of whether you cycle for climate, for health, for economics, or for happiness ..read more

It’s been an unbelievable week. The scorching climate-change-driven heatwave across the western part of the continent is making headlines everywhere, and with good reason. Lytton BC (near where I spent my summers doing field research) reached an all-time Canadian record high temperature of 49.5°C yesterday. The normal high temperature in Lytton this time of year is 24 °C. Other cities including Victoria, Vancouver, and Kamloops all saw record high temperatures. More than one hundred people died suddenly in Metro Vancouver due to heat exposure. My professional training isn’t in bikes: it’s in ..read more
