28/4/24 Perhaps this might fit into another touring thread..? Just a few thoughts. I wasn’t out on my bike today but while nipping into my local ASDA for some bags of compost for Mrs T. I came across the archetype of a solitary British Cycle Tourist. He was about to take his bike inside and he was hard to miss. Lemon yellow hi viz jacket, lemon yellow hi viz panniers, sparkling white Genesis drop bar touring bike, helmet strapped to his rear rack. I followed him in, wondering what he... Spanish for bike components

Possibly bizarre question but does anyone know of any entry level guides to bikes and components in Spanish? Essentially looking at Ladybird book level ie images and linked words. Yes I can translate via physical or online dictionaries but have the usual issues re mistranslated or misplaced words ie Lost In Translation. The aim is to be able to identify/talk in a bike shop or with a mechanic if I should ride locally in Spain: ie. To not sound a British numpty ..read more

I’m planning the first overnight camping trip with my e bike. I’m looking at Weymouth (UK) and I’ll need a campsite with electricity to charge the bike. It’ll be me, my partner, two bikes and a tent. Could anyone share how you secure your bikes ..read more

I stumbled across this channel recently and am thoroughly enjoying it. A young couple's attempt to travel from Alaska to Argentina, himself somewhat experienced, herself a bike adventuring virgin. Pleasantly little talk of gear and lots of reality. Production standards are basic so it achieves a certain level of 'genuine'. There's a general direction to go (south) but diversions kick in for interesting places, challenging weather or just a lack of enjoyment. They're currently in México so... Read more ..read more

We set off in mid May to meander our way from Inverness to London over a 6 week period, following first doing the Hebridean Way, so 8 weeks in total. I realise by search that similar posts have been made, and great answers are there. We will approach the trip with hopefully some common sense but wonder if there is any general or specific comments that we should take on board regarding security, mainly of our worldly goods! (ie we will be carrying everything with us on our bikes, from... Read more ..read more

My son recently did the Traws Eryri route plus a lot of the trail centres on the way. Not the best of weather conditions over Easter but it was good challenge to complete. He has put together this video which may be useful to anyone thinking of doing it ..read more

Nice ride? - Exeter, Exmouth, Dawlish area plus Ferry

Viewing Cycle.Travel for areas to go on my list of future possiblities. I wondered if the bike paths down each side of the river Exe, possibly ferrying across to do the opposite bank is worth the trip down for a couple of days idling about near the water. - Whats the ferry like with bikes? Would I need to pre-book? - I went to Exeter very briefly years back and liked it. Cant decided from the map if biking down the river sides would be rather lovely or very dull. - I have no recall at... Read more ..read more

So..... it's that time. A brain worm has been wiggling away for a while and it's starting to become serious. I'm living in a whole new country, living a whole new life and my priorities are changing. I've toured and commuted on my trusty Trek hardtail and Roccado has recently been upgraded to an 8 Speed drivetrain but he's not the most practical for my new lifestyle. He's being carried up and down stairs daily, locked outside of work for long stretches, exposed to the elements and while... Read more ..read more

HI All, A few years ago the BiL and I cycled from Walton on Thames in Surrey to my MiL's cottage in the New Forest in Everton. Most of the route was really nice*. The start is easy Walton, Chertsey, Frimley and lots of open countryside all the way to Winchester. Where we came unstuck was trying to navigate through the cycling 7th circle of hell that is Southampton. I am thinking of doing the Jouney again, and the question is still there. Is there a half decent road cycling route (i.e... Read more ..read more
