MACY DOB: June 1, 2022 (Black and white) Macy is the tiniest little bean in the Cat Forest. She might be very smol, but her voice is big and loud. Macy has no problem standing up to a bully and using her teeth when human touch does not meet her expectations. Don’t worry, she will apologize right after by licking you and giving you kisses. Macy enjoys gentle butt spanking and jumping into your lap to get closer to you. Attention from you is what Macy chases after.  ..read more

Why do cats sleep all the time?
Catoro Cafe
by Sequoia Hornsby

Ever wonder why cats sleep so much? Either on a visit to Catoro, or as a cat owner, you may have noticed that cats spend a significant amount of time sleeping. In fact, it's not uncommon for cats to sleep for up to 16 hours a day! But why do cats sleep so much? One reason for a cat's apparently excessive sleep is that it's simply a natural part of their behaviour. They use up lots of energy quickly when chasing prey, pouncing, and running around, and so they need lots of rest to regain and conserve energy. As predators that evolved in the wild, cats need all this energy in order to hunt ..read more

Are ALL Catoro cats available for adoption?
Catoro Cafe
by Sequoia Hornsby

Wondering if all the cats are available to adopt? The answer is yes! In fact, this is one of the fundamental purposes of our cat cafe. All our cats have been rescued, and we take care of them in a safe space, providing food, medical care and so much more. We find loving homes for these cats, making space for more kitties to be rescued. Because the cats all come from different places and have different backgrounds, they often need a while to settle in and feel safe. So, we give each kitty a ‘settling in’ period before they are marked as available for adoption. This gives each cat the chance t ..read more

PSA to our Catoro Family With a heavy heart and after many months of contemplation, we have decided to put Catoro up for sale.  This was not an easy decision to come to. We’ve spent more than 3 years building up our cat cafe and rescue sanctuary in the heart of Vancouver, which has helped more than 800 kitties find homes, and served nearly 50,000 cat therapy sessions in our Cat Forest. We’ve seen the rehabilitation of cats who came from the worst of conditions, as they transform into the most loving and social companions. And we’ve also seen countless people visit them and find joy i ..read more

Catoro Cafe
by Sequoia Hornsby

Shenna has been working at Catoro since day one (over 3 years) and is one of our Co-Store Managers. Read this interview to find out what it's like working in a cat cafe and interacting with rescue cats. In her words, working at Catoro is "fun, fulfilling and challenging." What is your favourite drink on our menu? I'd choose the Brown Sugar Milk Tea every day if I weren't so terrible with caffeine! What is the most fun part of your job? Snuggling the cats! Telling them how cute they are. Watching them do weird and funny cat things. I also love meeting lots of cat-crazy people, and exchanging ca ..read more

Catoro Cafe
by Sequoia Hornsby

Loki was thrown from a moving vehicle He then lived alone in the wild for a month, before being rescued, in a semi-feral state. We shared an update from his adopters a while ago, and we wanted to repost that here in case you're not on our email list, because it's a heartwarming update. "Last December when we first took Loki in, we didn't know if he would willingly accept human contact within a month, within a year, or perhaps ever.   We didn't know if he would be comfortable sleeping in the same room, let alone the same bed as us." "We adopted Loki (originally called Willy) sight unsee ..read more

We're taking a moment to celebrate the cats who found loving homes this year, while knowing our mission is far from over, as there are still so many cats who need our help.  We know it can feel overwhelming how many cats are abandoned or in the streets, so we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the difference we're making together. We believe all cats deserve safety and love, and we're so grateful these cats now get that opportunity. All the cats pictured here (and more) found homes this year, after being rescued and cared for at Catoro. This is only made possible by your continued ..read more

Why you should "adopt, don’t shop"
Catoro Cafe
by Sequoia Hornsby
1y ago
Adopt, don't shop You may have heard this phrase, but what does it really mean and why is it important? In honour of national Adopt a  Shelter Pet Day on April 30th, we want to talk about the benefits of cat adoption over shopping for a cat. Why is it important? There are many cats living in dirty and dangerous conditions without adequate food, clean water or any health care or human interaction. Sadly many shelters don't have space to house more cats, which means many are left on the streets, and in some sad situations shelter cats are even euthanised. So when you adopt rather than ..read more
