You may have noticed that I have been going around quite a bit this year. But why is important for SEX-ED + to invest time and resources in conferences? (reminder: those don’t come cheap- AT ALL!)
First there is the need to reach the audience for which the project is intended. As SEX-ED + is shadow-banned (blocked from view even if the page is still there) on all social media, there is no other way to be seen than to get out of the basement and go and meet people. On the plus side, folks attending those conferences are pretty cool.
Then, there is the need to know where people, researchers and ..read more

Odile Fillod, researcher, speaker and author of the first 3d model of stylised clitoris
Maéva Badré, Sex educator and PHD student at the university of medecine in Geneva, Maéva uses dissection, histology and methods to render organs transparent to document the anatomy and functions of the clitoris. A much needed and awaited work.
Violeta Belhouchat, sexology and resilience therapist. Violeta took it upon herself to collect existing (and often conflicting) data around the clitoris and to make them available, with beautiful illustrations in the book “clitoris 4 u”.

Just back from two weeks in Europe, it is time to share what happened back there.
After Brussels, for the day of zero tolerance against FGM/C (see previous post), I went to Geneva to attend a multiplicity of events and meet a plethora of uber nice colleagues, collaborators and friends.
The first of those are Julien Da Costa and Christophe Lamy, from the Anatomy Unit of the University of Geneva. They developed a fantastic software named Sketchnote3D, specially developed for using 3D scanned material in educational settings.
They were nice enough to partner with SEX-ED + in the early stages of ..read more

On February 6, in Brussels, during the International Day of Zero Tolerance to Genital Mutilation, a partnership that began five years ago came full circle.
First date in Montreal
It was on February 6, 2019 that SEX-ED + and GAMS Belgium crossed paths for the first time at a conference, followed by a coffee. We then started dreaming of creating specific tools to accompany people who have had excision/infibulation.

You should know by now that the ultimate goal of SEX-ED + is to make all genital models accessible, for free, for consultation and 3D printing via the genital database. But this will only be possible when I find the cash/grant/donation/partnership that will allow me to do so. In the meanwhile, for those of you who function on shoestring budgets, there is a way to access some of that content via… the new posters!
Four are available: vulvae, penises, transitioning bodies and excision, infibulation and re-exposition of the clitoris. They are pretty, show the wide diversity of bodies and can liven ..read more

In Geneva, the Faculty of Medicine offers genital anatomy classes that present differences.
Anatomy teaching is becoming more inclusive at the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Medicine. It now teaches what the genitalia of intersex or transgender people look like. The aim is to better train doctors to deal with the realities of their future patients.
The representation of human genitalia is often surrounded by taboos and misconceptions. At Geneva’s Faculty of Medicine, the new anatomy of the reproductive and sexual system program offers ..read more

What is it like running a one-woman-sized project?
Here are the numbers, year six: the project reached $200,000 in sales. This success is an excellent response to those who didn’t see the point of creating such tools. They are much needed and there is a lot of demand for it.
I am still working alone- and paying myself a SALARY! – but I now have to give out contracts for accountant, lawyer, 3D scanning, graphic design, a bit of website programming and box folding (yes, boxes are still done by hand by lovely teenager friends, as I no longer have the time to make them).
Remember that this project ..read more

Genesis SEX-ED +: a project born of social science research
One of the most common misconception about SEX-ED + is that it’s an artistic project that has been put at the service of sexuality education. Nothing could be further from the truth! SEX-ED + is the direct result of a research partnership between a university and a non-profit organization. The goal of this research was to identify practices and principles that would contribute to anti-oppressive sexuality education.

September 26 is World Contraception Day SEX-ED + makes various contraceptive methods available free of charge for 3D printing! 3D printing
3D printing is an incredible technology that allows the creation and distribution of low-cost educational materials. Think of the 3D clitoris, made available in 2016, which has revolutionized the way we dosexuality education. Since its inception, the SEX-ED + project has aimed to use 3D technologies to render more material available. But while the intention is to make the material free of charge, the process itself is quite costly. 3D scanning, working on t ..read more
