Recently we installed a beautiful keyhole kitchen garden in Upper Arlington. This was done for a longtime client who recently moved and wanted a new kitchen garden for her space. Our wonderful garden consultant, Robin spearheaded this garden design and project so I’m going to let her tell you how the day went. Enjoy! I woke up to the sound of thunder and pouring rain, but was relieved when I checked the radar to see that the storms would pass through by 8:00 AM. I checked with the head of the landscaping crew while eating my breakfast, but we were all set for an 8:00 start time ..read more

Yep, you can still plant one more season in your garden here in Columbus, Ohio.  There’s a common misconception that you can only plant in the garden in mid May and that the growing season is over by the end of September. However, you can actually begin planting in early April and you can continue to plant every single month until October. Depending on what you plant you can even continue to harvest into December or later. In Columbus, our first frost date is generally around October 8th. A lot of vegetables will mature in around sixty days and can tolerate frost ..read more

This client had such an amazing vision for their kitchen garden. During the consult we found two locations that could work for a kitchen garden. The first was a very small space in their backyard. The second was much larger and was located in their front yard. It can take a lot of guts to put a vegetable garden in your front yard, but we know that if it is done right it can make such a dramatic and stunning statement. This stone potager garden in Upper Arlington definitely checks those boxes. Before Photo of the Garden Space This space was all grass and was completely unused. We designed the ..read more

Sound good to you? Good, let’s get started. Here’s how to grow garlic. It all started with a consult… I met with our wonderful client at her Upper Arlington home in January of 2020. She had an existing tiered kitchen garden. Some of it had done well, well other things had suffered. She explained to me that she loved gardening, but felt like her space was unorganized and hard to maintain because of the tiers. Before photo of the client’s existing garden We redesigned the area for her and her garden was one of the first of the season to be installed. We created a twin garden, with 2 cedar raised beds, two custom, steel panel trellises, and gravel pathways surround ..read more

It’s September and we are still planting in the vegetable garden. And we are challenging you to do the same! During garden consultations, one thing I spend a lot of time discussing with clients is the different growing seasons of Columbus. Many people think that the growing season starts in May and ends in September. However, our gardening season can actually last through November, or even longer depending on the weather. If you have warm season crops like peppers, squash, cucumbers, or tomatoes that are ready to come out of the garden, you can easily replace them ..read more
