Distance between bores

I have a quick question for the techies in the forum. I have an Envision unit from WaterFurnace that was installed in our home back in 2008. Check WEL0444. The bores are roughly 18 to 17 apart from each other. A local contractor told me they needed to be 25 feet apart. The soil in our area is very sandy. Hardly any clay. I don’t know what was the code back in 2008 (if any standard existed). What is the standard today as far as distancing between vertical bores is concerned for... Distance between bores ..read more

Aeroseal

We are having a local contractor working with our local utility to seal our ducts from the inside using a process called aeroseal. They tested our ductwork this week and we are leaking 328 CFM’s per minute. They state they can bring that down to near zero. They are planning on doing the sealing process on Wednesday. The cost is $200 to $300 and the state of CT picks up the rest of the tab. Even with our geothermal system our energy bills are astronomical as the northeast has one of the... Aeroseal ..read more

Check the rust in my flow center

Should I be concerned about the rust on the side of my flow center. Take a peek at the image attached. I was told by my previous WaterFurnace contractor that is not a big issue. Should I replace the flow center? Opinions welcome Thanks https://www.welserver.com/cgi-bin/show/WEL0444 ..read more

Would you pay this??!!

My geothermal went out so I was using emergency heat. Called a geo guy who came out for about an hour and charged $600, which I paid. Within 2 hours the compressor stopped again so emergency heat again. Called him and he came back out. Spent a couple of hours and did whatever. Still doesn't work and he is aware. Today I get an $800 bill. If I pay, I'll be $1,400 poorer and still using emergency heat. I want to be reasonable, but I have gotten no benefit for him spending his time.... I have a climate Master geothermal unit and the taco zone valve fails after about a year. I saw somewhere where they use rain Bird irrigation valves instead of the taco valve. But my taco valve has a end switch where the rain Bird only has the two wires going to it does anybody know if you can just use it without the end switch hooked up ..read more

Will a ground source heat pump work

in the high desert area of Oregon? I'm planning to build a retirement home in a dry, high desert area of Central Oregon. The water table is very low but has been reliable long-term. Wells are anywhere from about 400 feet to 700 feet deep to get to the aquifer. My impression is that water is needed for a geothermal heat pump to work but I don't know whether that is actually true, so this is the place to find out. What about horizontal loops? Annual temps run from about -5°F to... Will a ground source heat pump work ..read more

Electric strip heat not working

Unit: Waterfurnace Series 7 (8 years old), 048, 6 zones, Intellizone 2, Airboss zoning system I needed to have my air coil replaced in November due to a refrigerant leak. All aluminum coil was installed. Fast forward to last week, I started receiving FP2 freeze protect, E4 errors. I checked pressures in the loop lines which were normal. Incoming water temp was 44°, outgoing 41. Using my AID tool I cleared the error and restarted the furnace. It was fine for several days then the error came... Open Loop Cold Weather Operation

I live in western Iowa and we are currently experiencing a bitterly cold blizzard, wind chill temps in the minus 20-30s. I have an open loop geothermal system that discharges to a pond on my property. In past years I had a problem with that line freezing up. I did two fixes: installed a pressure switch on the discharge line so if it freezes up again it will shut down water flow (so I don't burst the line), and I also dug up the discharge line at the pond and covered it with thick...
