Typical ain't it. Last year I had three compressors. One beautiful brromwade which was just too enormous for my workshop, a twin cylinder direct drive and my long-time owned Clarke Panther 50 which tucks under the shelf racking.
Had to let the big one go to another good home because of its size (ironically when I move I'll have loads of space for one). Sold the twin cylinder on here and kept the little Panther.
Well, last night I went to use the air and it's empty. Compressor is always...

So... I am going to set myself up with an airfed mask for isocyanate 2K, previously I've done fairly small amounts at a time with a gerson mask, but I'm about to do most of a (small) car. And I have a beard, which reduces the efficacy of a system that isn't even rated in the UK anyway, and I don't want to die. Many thanks to the stickied thread on this forum for scaring me into taking the plunge.
So anyway, Im' looking at a dedicated compressor for the air feed, and likely something like...

Anyone had this problem with a Hydrovane 504?
Oil level good
Tank is drained of water
Runs fine and sounds sweet. Builds up to pressure fine.
As soon as pressure builds and the valve shuts off it belches steam through the air intake. Not electrical and not oil, smells like steam. It clears within 30 seconds to a minute.
I thought it was on fire at first. Freaked me out ..read more

I've got an old B&W Type 2X1 which only really use for topping up tyres etc, had it a good few years and still going strong but it's recently occurred to me that I've never changed the oil in it. Anyone know what grade of oil this would take? Also I assume you just fill it until the oil is level with the fill hole? Lastly there's two screws on the bottom, one is presumably the drain plug but what's the other likely to be? Cheers ..read more

I have a Sealey 3HP 50L compressor, and it's recently started throwing oil out of the breather. A mate of mine suggested, and a search on here seems to agree that this might indicate wear on the rings, or maybe the bores. Does that sound like a reasonable assumption?
I bought it new in 2007 and it hasn't had a massive amount of use. Is that something I can fix, or is it basically scrap? If the latter I suspect I'll just arrange some sort of shield around it to stop oil vapour hitting the...

A friend has offered me this, unfortunately he is 150 miles away, I dont have much info and the spec plate is well worn, I can make the date out and its 1980, is this worth the £200 asking price, or is modern stuff more efficient.

Just bought an upgraded media valve from ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165968195809
Fitted it over the weekend and no matter how much PSI I use (tried it from 45psi all the way to 90 psi) or how open or closed i have the air valve, it dosent draw any media to my gun?
Thinking it wcould be a problem with my media as it was old I order new stuff. some Draper 40112 shot blasting grit.
I get the whole concept of the venturi affect with the valve and i do hear air coming from the 'air...

so i went to turn the compressor on so i could use the hypertherm.
and nothing.
so first, check the fuse, and it was blown.... strange, but anyway put a new fuse in.
turned it on again and the motor hummed for 4 secs then stopped.
fuse blown again....
managed to get the fan cover loose on the back of the motor enough to try turn the fan to see if motor was locked.
and the fan moved easy and you could hear the popping of air as you span it around.
so not a seized motor etc.
so later that...

Can anyone help with the wiring on a new Clarke compressor motor? The new one has two capacitors and a different arrangement of the terminals and links.
This is the old motor.
And this is the new one, withy two capacitors, with the live, neutral and earth connected as we think, but is also needs the link wire attached to the cut-out switch. Should the link just come directly off the live feed again ..read more
