We believe…

We believe that the Hymns in English of the Catholic Church, just like the basic Latin Chants of A Parish Book of Hymns, are going to save the church musically by serving as two pillars built of musical stone. It may take a century or more for the other music of the English-language Mass Liturgy to settle down into a solemn and universal style that sounds like church music to the ear, no matter who you are and where you are. Catholics don’t sing because the music is ever-changing. New translations, new melodies, music chosen because “we like it”.i If you want Catholics to sing, call up Holy God, We Praise Thy Name, Immaculate Mary, Come Holy Ghost…and more that they know from years past. Choose a hymn from the entire list of 295 hymns that were chosen by Catholic musicians around the world as being hymns of all ages that need to be in the hands of choirs and congregations in every English-speaking congregation. And then have your choir sing the hymn. And we’ve found that peo ..read more

Wanting Catholics to sing hymns like Protestants, we were given melodies – not the harmony that Protestants hold in their hands each week. And suddenly, in the 70’s it was decided that Catholics needed to be able to read along with the readers, giving us a congregation with t ..read more
