Down a winding, gravel road in small town Iowa, Ellie + Peyton gathered all their favorite humans to celebrate their wedding day. As you drove down the long road leading to Hickory Terrance, you could see rolling farmland, the most peaceful cows meandering that land, beautiful tall trees, and finally the flags atop the tent where the big party would be taking place. The weather that week had been excessively hot, reaching highs of 95 degrees (uncharacteristically hot for mid September in Iowa) but the heat broke to a healthy 80 degrees just in time for Ellie + Peyton’s day. Family Studio Session: Des Moines, Iowa

Fun fact: I co-own a photo studio in Des Moines, Iowa, called The Creative Co Studio. Booking a session with me means having the option of using the studio without the usual studio cost that typically comes with booking a studio. (It’s also available to book as a photographer!) It’s timeless and versatile with several backdrop + chair options, a couple couches, and some seriously stellar light. I loooove utilizing the space in the winter time, but also just love using it for family sessions. Sometimes parks or outdoor locations can be overwhelming for littles, or distracting, so the simplicity ..read more

Say hello to Madi + Jack: a Tinder success story :’) According to Madi, “Our first date was so seamless and comfortable, I think we both knew it was it right away.” These two are such sunshine humans, and their day reflected exactly that. From their florals including warm oranges, yellows, and blues — to the literal sunshine on their wedding day — this one was one to remember and reflect on. One moment worth mentioning is that while they were planning on doing a first look, Madi still wanted to incorporate an element of surprise to this moment. We had the first look scheduled for after Jack’s ..read more

Genevieve + Mitch’s wedding day was the perfect example of a timeless + personal day. Their wedding color scheme was simply different shades of blue, lots of floral prints, and there was an emphasis on sentimental details. Some of those details included the lace on Genevieve’s dress which came from her mother’s wedding dress, Mitch’s cufflinks which were gifted from Genevieve, and G’s veil made by her mom. And obviously, G’s reception dress made entirely from her mom’s wedding dress. So so so dang fun! If you’re looking to get that “garden party” feel but don’t know where to start (if you’re f ..read more

As you’ve heard me say before, I am a BIG believer in documenting the little things in life especially when it comes to growing and changing families! Family sessions have this stigma of being a battleground essentially, with the kiddos kicking everyone else's butts lol. But it doesn't need to feel that way! Every age is different and comes with it's own unique hurdles, but I'm hoping one or all of these tips will help you prepare your kiddos or your clients' kiddos for their upcoming family session: 1. Allee + Tyler's midwest destination wedding at Pinewood in Cambridge, MN was a day full of intentional details and deep deep love between not only the two of them, but their families and friends. These two knew they wanted to have a destination wedding, but they also wanted it to be practical for their loved ones to be able to travel to the event. They settled on a venue just an hour north of the twin cities, and it was definitely a spot worth traveling to! The fact that every single guest had to travel to some extent to attend their wedding day just goes to show how loved Allee + Tyler are b ..read more
