I think May's age and level of development are a central aspect off her character, even in the games. I also think the general high quality of her character (being a much better insert for players than Brendan) is why adding female protags to Pokemon was less controversial than that change in some other franchises. M08 aka "Lucario and the Mystery of Mew" I think out of all the AG films, this one stands out as being the best of the bunch. I'm up for how the Terastal Debut (and maybe onward) would adapt the four arcs from Scarlet and Violet (Victory Road, Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and The Way Home) and the extra arcs from The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. The anime has never really been faithful with adapting story arcs from the games, and it seems to remain the case even with Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket out of the picture. I just re-remembered an episode of the indigo league anime. I think I watched it on netflix in 2014-ish. The only part of the episode I remember is Ash, Brock and Misty (who had togepi at the time) walking on a heavily forested mountain, and nothing else.
