Hey Gang   Textures in music can give amazing results, turning a fairly plain arrangement into a richly woven tapestry that captures the listener's imagination. It could be a subtle background layer, a gritty synth line, or an ethereal pad. The right texture can really transform and define a track.   I'm interested to know what others are using. What’s your go-to plugin or instrument when you want to add that special textural touch to your music? From something that provides an organic ambience, or even a synth that’s capable of those lush, intricate pads.   As a suggestion of t ..read more

What's Your DAW of Choice and Why?

Hey gang   I've been thinking a lot about the tools we use to bring our musical ideas to life, and I'm super curious about what everyone's go-to DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is. I know we've all got our preferences, often shaped by our workflow, the genres we dabble in, or even just how we got started in music production.   So, I thought it would be useful to start a thread where we can all share the DAW we use and dive into the reasons why we've chosen it over others. Are there specific features that make it your top pick? Is it the user interface, the stock plugins and i ..read more

I'm 43 and starting late at this but I'm looking for advice and tips for what I need to record vocals and an acoustic guitar.  Has anyone ever heard of Arturia minifuse recording kit? I saw one at guitar center, but like I said no very little about recording?  Anyone have any books they recommend or tutorials?  Also should I/could I record audio and my acoustic guitar at the same time or it advised to record separately. And finally do you suggest getting a pick up installed in my acoustic or is it better to record from a mic.  I'm looking at about a $1000 budget to start an ..read more

Trying to get the hang of using compression in Gainstaging, mi brane urtz!

Dear Anyone.   Yes, I've watched loads a lot of YouTube videos on gainstaging but I think they've got something I haven't and I'm beginning to think that something's called a 'brain....'! There might well be other incredibly dumbass questions but can I start with compression? Everywhere says GAIN'S volume going into the compressor, Volume is amount of sound coming out.  I was doing OK with that till I saw a button on my compressor called 'Output Gain'!  If sound coming out's Volume, sound going IN's GAIN, how the heck can you have OUTPUT Gain?  Is that just another word fo ..read more

We are in the era of free VST plugins for music production. There are so many free ones out there and really good ones at that. I know we already have a topic specific to free plugins but I wanted to point out this developer and their plugins because it is SOOO good.    You'll find all of them for free download at https://analogobsession.com/   I'm particularly a fan of the LALA Leveling Amplifier which I have been using for vocals and the Pultec EQ emulation plugin called Rare. The latter sounds soo good on the mix bus. Anybody used them at all? I highly recommend you chec ..read more

Revoice Pro 5 Crashing

Hi   I recently bought the upgrade for Revoice Pro 4 to 5 hoping for something near what the tool promised. Unfortunately it seems a bit buggy. The saved session state gets a bit muddled, the interface is a bit clunky, it isn’t intuitive and now…. I can’t use it to do its core function without crashing. It’s damn frustrating.   Honestly, for some types of music, like pop, it can potentially save a lot of time creating closely synced, flawless harmonies. Hopefully there is a quick fix. I’ve contacted their support and with any luck, I will hear back soon.   Does anyone have a mor ..read more
