Recently I have re-acquired a crossbow that I very briefly owned 10 years ago. I never hunted with it back then but I am trying to set it up to perform the best to its capability. It's a Horton Yukon SL. I realize this is probably on the lowest end of "crossbow quality" but I'm hoping it will perform well enough to hunt with out to 25 yards. i have several questions as I am ignorant to crossbow anything for the most part. It came back to me with 8 or 10 bolts but different brands and... Read more ..read more

I have access to a piece of property that I think a crossbow would be advantage. I’m not broke, but very frugal when it comes to stuff I really don’t need, like a crossbow. Anyhow, I was in a pawnshop the other day, and they had this old Horton crossbow for $150 made in 2001. It’s a Horton nitro hunter. I just thought it was cool because the majority of it seem to be machined out of soild aluminum stock and made in the USA. It just comes off as one of those old-school quality builds “kinda... I used to order from South Shore Archery. Their quality got rough for a while. I was ordering 12 bolts 4 would be junk out of gate. When Jerry worked there he always did right by me but he’s gone. Jerry went to a new shop, then supposedly he retired again. Either way. Straight Shooter Custom Arrows Custom crossbow arrows built to your specifications. straightshootercustomarrows.com I tried this company. I placed the order with George on Saturday. He talked me through order over the phone. They shipped Monday. Arrived today. I gave him my old bolt... Read more ..read more

Shot the rig today. A dozen Tenpoint Elite 400 bolts. I have three that shoot the same hole at 20 yards, and two more that are within a 1/4" or a tad more. Two were about an inch low and inch right. Three were about an inch right. Two others did their own thing, 2" off bullseye different directions. One of those was in my quiver last year. Lesson learned. Sure wish I had done this before. I had no idea there would be that much variance. Shot both Schwacker and Rage chisel tip... Read more ..read more

Just bought supplies for the upcoming season: 6 new Excalibur quill bolts, replacement blades for the boltcutter broadheads that took deer last year. Also got some 150 grain magnus stinger buzz cut 4 blades to try. Getting excited. My daughter prefers the xbow to the rifle. I’m going to attempt a recurve kill myself this year, but my micro mag 340 is a sweet piece of equipment ..read more
