Ask me why I love Maine, and one of the top reasons out of my mouth will always, always be the natural beauty of this state. Visit Maine in the summer, and you’ll surely be charmed - perhaps you’ll even imagine yourself living here (I say, visit in February before you make that big move) - there’s something so special about the confluence of mountains, oceans, and the ecosystems in-between. Summer, especially August, in Maine is unparalleled, and one of my favorite times to explore the state. It’s hard to get me to leave during this all-too-brief but magical time of year, the weather is (usua ..read more

If you live in Maine, or if you’ve visited Maine in the summer, you know how glorious the state is this time of year. And you also probably know how absolutely mobbed it is with tourists. Try to go to hot destinations like Bar Harbor, Camden, Boothbay Harbor, or heck, even Portland, and you’ll be met with a harsh reality: difficult parking, long lines, traffic congestion, expensive (and sold out) hotels, and generally, way too many people. Tourist season in Maine is a reality of living here, but I still wouldn’t want to be anywhere else from June through August. In fact, most Mainers choose t ..read more

Hello friends, I hope you’re having a nice weekend. Happy LAST SATURDAY with 45 as president! Something to celebrate! 2021 really started off with a bang, didn’t it? I’ve been feeling a sense of heavy pandemic fatigue these past couple of weeks. Possibly 2020 fatigue… or news fatigue. Or just fatigue from all of the things. The events of January 6th were a lot, to say the very least. I’ve been reading and listening about how much worse things really were at the Capitol that day and it makes me even angrier when I see people online still refuse to condemn the actions of the insurrectionists an ..read more

Happy new year! It’s wild to me that 2020 is… over. It felt endless, it felt like the shortest year ever - frankly, I’m still gathering my thoughts on it. Chris and I spent New Year’s Eve at home, watching Harry Potter - we’ve been working through the series - and were in bed by 10 pm. In my world, that’s the perfect way to spend NYE. On New Year’s Day we kicked off the new year the way we usually do - outside. I went for a glorious run early in the morning – the weather was perfect, cold but sunny and bright, and I love running on holidays when the world is quiet and the streets are empty (e ..read more

Of the few bright spots offered by this godforsaken year, reading more was one of them. Without the distraction of, you know, a job and a social life, suddenly I had time to dive into all the books I’d been meaning to read. Looking back on the stack of completed and in-progress books I gathered up for this Instagram post, I feel proud. I may not have learned another language or mastered the art of baking sourdough, but I did get back in the habit of reading and I feel good about that. it’s a habit I’m looking forward to bringing into the new year. I’ve rounded up all the books I read this yea ..read more
