March was another roaring month for restaurants in the Kansas City area, with many openings and announcements. Prominent celebrities announce a new steak house. Favorites change owners and another closes for a big re-model. The big announcement this month is that Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are opening a steakhouse next year called 1587 Prime. The 10,000 square foot, two story restaurant will be inside the Loews Kansas City Hotel. This is a newish hotel located two blocks east of the downtown convention center. The last couple of months have been a busy time for restaurant openings, closings, and other news. Whole Harvest Kitchen is a plant-based restaurant opening this week in Leawood Town Center. I’m looking forward to trying their KC BBQ Plate, their Pulled BBQ Jackfruit Tacos, the Shirataki Noodle Laksa, and all of the plant-based appetizers, salads, pizzas and desserts. The Kansas City metro area has a wide variety of restaurants with vegan and vegetarian options. We have several restaurants that have all vegan menus and others where vegan options constitute half of the menu. If you like vegan baked goods and desserts, Kansas City delivers. Kansas City has come a long way since I first adopted a vegetarian diet back in 1989.
