Hi all,
I'm having trouble gauging what schools are appropriate for me to apply to.
I've been thinking about going to grad school for political science. I honestly don't think I'm competitive enough for the better programs that will have better job outcomes and was looking into Master's programs in order to build up my credentials/confidence in myself/experience (contingent on getting scholarship though... can't really afford to shell out for that)*, but an old professor of mine has said I should just apply to PhD programs straightaway, that way I'll be funded. Problem is, I can't figur ..read more

Hello, I've been assigned an essay to analyze the influence of social media, particularly Twitter, now X, on this year's presidential elections. We have clear guidelines. In the introduction, we have to present the problem. In the main body, we have to expand on hypotheses, review literature, compare viewpoints and evaluate results. In the coclusion, we have to answer the research question and solutions or insights for the future. Overall, we have a 15-page limit.
Right now, I'm struggling with the analysis part. It seems there isn't enough material for analysis yet, and I'm unsure about which ..read more

Hi y'all,
I am studying in Canada at McGill university and currently am an undergraduate in year 2 (one and a half year to go). I am absolutely passionate with US politics and American history and wish to continue my studies related to the former field in grad school. Yet, I am an international (French) and this is somehow uncommon to study American politics and history. The one main reason I am not studying in the US at the moment is because...it is too expensive!
But it is ok because McGill has a lot of undergraduate classes in US history and some very good political science ones relat ..read more

Hello ya'll,
I last posted here nearly a decade ago when I was applying to graduate school. I am now on the other side of things as an Assistant Professor.
Something I have been giving a lot of thought to recently is how to better recruit students, especially from traditionally underserved populations. My sense from reading applications is that a handful of undergraduates get a lot of feedback on where and how to apply, and a lot of applicants are wandering around in the dark.
Some of my colleagues run informational camps to provide interested undergraduates information on graduate scho ..read more

I am a PRC national (male, cisgender, heterosexual, ethnically Chinese, first-gen college student) with a Bachelor's in IR from one of the top 2 universities in China and currently in my second year towards a Master's in IR at the same uni.
My substantive interests are broadly situated in IR and IPE.
I am interested in studying political methodology as a second major/minor subfield but I am not confident about my quant skills cuz I didn't take any math courses in college except for "Statistics" which was unfortunately marked as "Pass" instead of a numerical grade due to COVID-19 lockdowns.&nbs ..read more

I'm applying for the second time for PhD programs (Fall 2024 admissions) in the US, after an unsuccessful earlier attempt in 2020 for the 2021 admissions cycle (that was a brutal cycle... unsure if I've recovered enough from that).
I just created some of the accounts on the applicant portals for schools I'm targeting, and I noticed that because I'm using the same email address, they have a bunch of my info saved -- including old GRE scores that were sent to them by ETS. I do not want to retake the GRE, so I was planning on sending those same scores again anyway and was happy to se ..read more
