My SF/EMG Test Experience
From Sarah Lex

TW: Needles I thought it was about time I gave you a little update on my health. Nothing has changed but I wanted to share my experience with the tests I had a week ago. I had an appointment with my new neurologist at the end of May. I wished she listened and was awesome, and she was. She sent me for blood tests, eleven vials - which wasn't fun, my arm was numb for ages afterwards. And she also mentioned EMG testing. At the time I didn't know what that was but I told her that I would let them do any testing on me they wanted as I needed answers. My health has only got worse since I ..read more

Life Update: It's Been a While and My Health is Shit
From Sarah Lex
by

It's been almost nine months...NINE MONTHS since I put some words down on here. I can't quite believe it's been that long but I also can believe it. It's been a struggle, I've not had much to say, and I wanted to wait until I had some answers before updating you all. March 2020 COVID hit and so did all these weird symptoms I began experiencing. It's not and has nothing to do with COVID, I've been checked, don't worry, it's just a very random coincidence.  To begin with it wasn't too bad, it was happening once a month, I was just really tired. I'd go for more naps than usual durin ..read more

Of Hearts: The Bra Strap
From Sarah Lex
by

I've wanted to write something like this for a while, I guess you could call it a series of stories, things that happened to me or things I want to talk about that aren't conventional blog posts. I'm titling it Of Hearts because it's a play on words regarding the Queen of Hearts and my love of Alice in Wonderland but also because I'm a massive cliche and these essays will be from the heart. The Bra Strap I remember being scared, genuinely terrified about going to physics class in secondary school. We moved classes every few months in Year 11 as different teacher specialised in a di ..read more

Georgie Pupdate: One Year On
From Sarah Lex
by

It's been a whole year since we picked George up from Lawford Doodles and brought him into our family and it's been the best. I always wanted two dogs, and it took me five years to convince Ian to get Teddy so I really didn't think we'd end up having another furbaby join our family a year on. But I'm so glad we did because George is a babe, and almost the opposite to my little ginger nugget, Ted.  I was genuinely worried I wouldn't bond with George or love him as much as I do Teddy, because Teddy is my world but G quickly banished those doubts and is everything to me. He's such a che ..read more

11 Ways Social Distancing Rules Have Affected My Autistic Boyfriend
From Sarah Lex
by
2y ago
*Disclaimer: I am not autistic but my boyfriend is and wanted me to discuss this topic on his behalf COVID-19 has certainly changed the way we live, and with lockdown lifting the virus is still a massive concern to me and my boyfriend. Ian was officially diagnosed as autistic after an array of assessments two years ago, but even without the piece of paper, we knew. He just wanted to have proof for, in his words, 'to explain the way I am'. The main ways the new social distancing rules have impacted Ian are: Wearing a mask - Ian tried to wear a mask on an outing to the hospital but due to h ..read more

Skull Shaver Butterfly Kiss Fierce Shaver Review
From Sarah Lex

*Disclaimer: Ad. This post contains PR items. So, here's the story; my Pops is a new Facebook user and every ad that pops up on his feed, he thoroughly investigates. That's how I was introduced to Skull Shaver. Via my dad's Facebook ads. It's his 70th birthday next month and I called him asking if there was anything specific he'd like as a present and he immediately announced 'a skull shaver.' I went straight to Google to see what he was on about as I'd never heard of it. I then tweeted about it and the guys at Skull Shaver got in contact offering a Skull Shaver for my Pops and a Butterfl ..read more

*Disclaimer: AD. This post is sponsored  Initially this post was going to show off my finished bedroom, complete with the beautiful wall art that I took hours choosing from Desenio, however with COVID-19 taking over the world, my final bits and pieces I needed to finish off our bedroom have been postponed. I'm still waiting on my plush grey carpet and kingsize bed with a beautiful upholstered headboard - I have no idea when they'll be arriving but I couldn't wait to show you my prints! If you know me then you know I spend a lot of time in my bedroom; having a chronic illness means t ..read more

A Scary Trip to the Emergency Vet with our Puppy
From Sarah Lex

Last weekend did not go to plan. Life in lockdown is stressful enough but on Saturday night my 11 month old puppy, George, scared the life out of me and Ian. I even think Teddy knew there was something wrong as he wouldn't leave Georgie's side. Let me give you a little bit of backstory. Both my dogs go off the lead once they're in a secluded field so they can chase after each other, explore and tire themselves out. They're both excellent at recall so come back to us as soon as they're called. And if Ted (who likes to dawdle), is taking too long to recall, George goes and gets him; he's lik ..read more

Four Ways to Style Truffle Shuffle T-shirts: Plus Size Edit
From Sarah Lex
by

*Disclaimer: AD. This post contains gifted items from Truffle Shuffle. I am a massive fan of a T-shirt; slogan tees, band tees, film/tv tees - they're my jam. They're easy to wear, can be dressed up or down, and they're just comfortable. As a wheelchair user, I don't like clothes that are too constrictive because I don't move about a lot so want to wear clothing I don't have to think about.   I have a lot of clothes from the mens section and I much prefer the relaxed fit of T-shirts that are catered for men. They're not fitted and don't have little tiny arm holes so it's always a win ..read more

Making Friends as an Adult is Hard
From Sarah Lex

Image by Khandie Photography Making friends as an adult is hard. Making friends as a disabled adult is really hard. I'm in my early thirties, I spend a lot of time at home due to my health and it gets really isolating. Remember as a kid, you'd go up to another kid, ask them to be your friend and BOOM you'd be instant pals and play on the park together all day?...Apparently that's not acceptable as an adult! As an adult we're much more critical; we know what we want, we want a certain type of friend. When I was six, if you were a similar age, I'd be your mate. That doesn't work at 33. The ..read more
