You heard it here first! As a Volvo fan myself, there are not a lot of manufacturers that do it better, as the competition seems to always be chasing Volvo’s design, comfort and pricing. But with Lexus sharpening their pencil, we may have ourselves something here. I give you the 2024 Lexus TX550h+ Luxury. This 6-passenger hybrid SUV takes a chapter right out of the Volvo handbook and capitalizes on many categories for their new SUV release. Battenfeld: Trump trial courtroom camera bans, creepy artist sketches need to go
Boston Herald
by Joe Battenfeld
32m ago
Archaic courtroom camera bans are fueling distrust in the judicial system and preventing the public from getting an accurate view of what’s happening in Donald Trump’s hush money trial. The camera ban is a relic of the past and needs to be abolished – like those ridiculous courtroom sketches that allow artists to use their bias in portraying the defendant as cartoonish. It’s more equivalent to a military tribunal than a public court proceeding. Trump looked clownish and hideous in the sketches released to the public this week, and a New York Times pool reporter who has criticized Trump in the ..read more

Boston city councilor sounds alarm over decision to allow unpermitted marathon with 200 runners
Boston Herald
by Gayla Cawley

A Boston city councilor raised concerns over what he described as an unpermitted marathon that took place on city streets this past Saturday, with roughly 200 runners winding through neighborhoods without police traffic enforcement. Dubbed an “unofficial” or “unsanctioned” marathon on the mayor’s public schedule and the Race Roster site, respectively, 26.TRUE has been held by the PIONEERS Run Crew for the past few years as an alternative for people of color to what the Boston Globe described as the “overwhelmingly white” Boston Marathon. The route starts and ends in Roxbury and, per the Globe ..read more

SISAK, JENNIFER PELTZ, ERIC TUCKER and JAKE OFFENHARTZ (Associated Press) WASHINGTON (AP) — Jury selection in the hush money trial of Donald Trump enters a pivotal and potentially final stretch Thursday as lawyers look to round out the panel of New Yorkers that will decide the first-ever criminal case against a former president. Seven jurors have been picked so far, including an oncology nurse, a software engineer, an information technology professional, a sales professional, an English teacher and two lawyers. Eleven more people must still be sworn in, with the judge saying he a ..read more

OBF: Shakespeare at Fenway, or just shaky?
Boston Herald
by Bill Speros

“Shakespeare At Fenway” came early this year. “The Comedy of Errors” debuted on Opening Day. The gaffes and laughs haven’t stopped. If all the world’s a stage, the Red Sox are mostly minor-league players. Left field was once the domain of Williams, Yaz, and Rice. These days, it’s Moe, Larry, and Curley. When they’re not dropping balls, they’re running headlong into the third baseman. The Red Sox were last in the majors in fielding percentage (.973) and first in errors (18) after 18 games. Somehow, they were still .500. Unfortunately, that’s good for last place in the AL East. Pain was another ..read more

Shoegaze pioneers Drop Nineteens back in Boston
Boston Herald
by Brett Milano

Since they broke up nearly 30 years ago, the Boston band Drop Nineteens have been anointed as pioneers of shoegaze, that dreamy sound of innocent vocals and heavy distorted guitars. This was big news to bandleader Greg Ackell. “You could say I was touched to hear that. You could also say I was informed,’ Ackell said this week. “I wasn’t out there Googling our name, and I’m not a big fan of social media. So my knowledge of an audience forming after the fact would be minimal. But it just happened that it occurred to me to make music again while shoegaze was having a resurgence, things just align ..read more

Editorial: Talk isn’t enough – fighting antisemitism takes action
Boston Herald
by Boston Herald editorial staff

The virulent surge in antisemitism following the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel has hit “tsunami” levels. And that’s just in New England. That’s the assessment of Rob Fish, the Anti-Defamation League’s New England interim regional director. As the Herald reported, ADL’s annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents recorded 623 such incidents in the New England region (except for Connecticut) last year — more than triple the 204 incidents in 2022. “The numbers are simply stunning,” said Fish. “We have observed a significant rise of incidents, followed by a surge, followed now by a tsunami.” S ..read more

‘Abigail’ a bloody good fright fest
Boston Herald

The filmmaking team known as Radio Silence, made up of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and producer Chad Villella, struck black (comedy) gold with their 2019 horror thriller “Ready or Not,” about a young bride, played by Samara Weaving, who has to battle her way out of a murderous game hosted by her wealthy soon-to-be in-laws. The film demonstrated their mastery of coupling an irreverent tone with splashy violence, and netted the team the responsibility of making the next two “Scream” movies, the first without Wes Craven behind the camera. With their latest feature “Abigail ..read more
