Kuster Confesses: Dems ‘Holding Back’ on Criticizing Antisemitic Campus Protests
NH Journal – Politics
by Michael Graham

In a new interview, Rep. Annie Kuster says many Democrats “have been, kind of, holding back” on weighing in on the college protests. “It’s complicated enough for us with the range of opinions and height of emotions we have without weighing in on what [colleges] should be doing,” Kuster told Axios. That appears to include the two Democrats running to replace Kuster in Congress, both of whom have repeatedly declined to answer questions about the campus protests or their displays of anti-Jewish sentiment. Neither Colin Van Ostern nor state Sen. Becky Whitley have spoken publicly on the issue, eve ..read more

NH House Dem: My Dead Mom Voted In The FITN Primary
NH Journal – Politics
by Michael Graham
13h ago
When Rep. Timothy Horrigan (D- Durham) testified against a bill to prevent dead people from voting in New Hampshire elections, he spoke from personal experience. His dead mother voted in January’s First in the Nation presidential primary. The House Judiciary Committee was debating SB576 on Wednesday. The bill would require executors of estates to inform town clerks of a resident’s passing to help keep voter rolls current and correct. The concern is that ballots, particularly mail-in or absentee ballots, could be submitted on behalf of deceased registered voters.     Like his fellow ..read more

Biden Admin. Says Small Business Is ‘Feeling Good;’ NH Biz Owners Say ‘Hell, No!’
NH Journal – Politics

Ask President Joe Biden’s Small Business Administration (SBA) chief how America’s small businesses are doing, and she’ll tell you there’s a “small business boom” underway. Small business owners “are feeling good,” SBA Administrator Isabel Guzman told NHJournal Tuesday. “There is hope in the economy.” But ask Granite State small business owners, and you’re likely to get a different response. “Hell, no!” was restaurant owner Desmond Holman’s answer when asked if business owners like him are feeling good. “It’s tough out there,” said the owner of Daw Kun Thai restaurant in Manchester. “People jus ..read more

JACOBS: AARP Is Conflicted About Everything—Except Its Bottom Line
NH Journal – Politics
by Chris Jacobs

To some, it might seem odd that an organization that claims to advocate for seniors has as its largest partner a business reportedly under investigation by the Justice Department for its Medicare billing practices. But unfortunately, such conflicts are par for the course for AARP. As I outline in a new report for American Commitment, the organization formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons has become incredibly compromised over the past two decades by its financial entanglements. The title of an investigative expose, which refers to AARP’s “billio ..read more

NH Journal – Politics

Rep. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.) has joined 20 fellow congressional Democrats in demanding that Columbia University leaders either confront the anti-Israel protests on their campus or quit. It’s the strongest language yet from a New Hampshire Democrat regarding the chaos spreading across American college campuses. In a letter to the elite university’s board of trustees on Monday, Pappas and his colleagues expressed their “disappointment that, despite promises to do so, Columbia University has not yet disbanded the unauthorized and impermissible encampment of anti-Israel, anti-Jewish activists on cam ..read more

No Bail for Armed, Skateboarding, Manifesto-Writing Anti-Trump Vandal
NH Journal – Politics

Lawrence Dunlap won’t be skating this time. The 37-year-old skateboard-riding Concord realtor had guns and a manifesto in his home when he was arrested for keying 11 cars during the state GOP convention on April 14. A judge has ruled he’s staying in jail for now. Concord District Court Judge Sarah Christie denied bail for Dunlap on Monday, saying the alarming items police found, as well as evidence about his mental health, are cause for concern about the risk he poses to the community. Last week, police released a photo of a skateboard-riding figure they believed was responsible for damaging t ..read more

Biden’s New EPA Rules Put NH Power Grid in Jeopardy, Experts Say
NH Journal – Politics
by Taylor Millard

Energy advocates warn that the Biden administration’s new regulations for power plants announced last week will hurt states like New Hampshire that rely on natural gas for electricity generation and put an already straining electric grid at even greater risk. “This is completely out of touch with reality,” Trisha Curtis, CEO of energy consultant PetroNerds, told InsideSources. “It’s almost as though they’re wishing the American manufacturer, American producer, and American consumer to materially decline economically and to not be able to compete.” The sweeping new Environmental Protection Agen ..read more

Craig: Saying ‘Illegal Alien’ Is Offensive; Sanctuary Cities Are A-OK
NH Journal – Politics
by Michael Graham

Joyce Craig supports a ban on illegal aliens. No, not a ban on illegal immigrants or communities that provide them sanctuary. Craig is offended by the term “illegal alien.” The former Manchester mayor told WMUR’s Adam Sexton the acceptable phrase is “‘undocumented individuals,’ and we need to make sure that we are treating everyone with the utmost respect, no matter who they are.” Asked by Sexton if she “considers the term ‘illegal alien’ — which is a federal legal term — to be offensive,” Craig replied, “I do.”     The phrase “illegal alien” appears more than 30 times in the U.S. C ..read more

SMITH: ‘Shrinkflation’ Has Come to NH Healthcare
NH Journal – Politics
by Steven Smith
3d ago
Have you heard the term “shrinkflation” yet? It means that while the price of a product has not gone up at all, the size of the product itself has shrunk. So, it’s not your imagination when that bag of potato chips has more air at the top of the bag or that those cookies you used to buy are smaller than you remember. It’s sneaky, sure, but an informed consumer can always choose not to buy that product, or to choose a competitor’s offering. However, what happens when we are talking about something much more important than a bag of potato chips being subject to shrinkflation? What if it’s someth ..read more

NH Journal – Politics
by Damien Fisher

A 37-year-old Concord realtor who espoused anti-Trump sentiments online is being held for allegedly keying dozens of cars during the recent state GOP convention as police found a disturbing cache of guns, zip ties, and suicide notes in his apartment. Lawrence Anthony Dunlap of South Spring Street was arrested and charged Friday with 11 felonies for the incident that took place earlier this month. The investigation into Dunlap’s connection to the vandalism became intense Friday when Concord Police issued a “be on the lookout” alert for Dunlap over concerns for his safety and the safety of polic ..read more
