Our 2023/24 Season features a remarkable number of inaugural performances by the Band. In total, fifteen works will receive their Northshore Concert Band premiere.
Our season opens on Sunday, October 29, 2023, with an evening performance at the McGrath Family Performing Arts Center in Wilmette, with Treats & Tricks. David Roush has joined the Northshore Concert Band as our new Business and Operations Manager.

Our "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" series continues with an all-horn edition!
Ryan Sedgwick (horn) had an unusually eventful summer this year beginning with a celebration of the completion of his MBA. Taking advantage of his employer’s sabbatical benefit, Ryan spent 7 weeks traveling around Europe, alternating travel companions between his father, his husband, and fellow NCB horn player Jennifer Young. Our "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" series continues with two NCB trombonists!
Joe Schorer (trombone) and his wife Millie traveled to the Galapagos Islands and the Amazon rainforest. He attended a Chicago White Sox/LA Angels baseball game (with Shohei Otani pitching) while visiting their son Max, his wife Sara, and their daughter Lily in southern LA. Closer to home Joe and a 9-year-old trumpet player were the band in the Northbrook July 4th parade!

With summer drawing to a close it’s time again to share some "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" photos from NCB members.
This summer Janet Jesse (clarinet) traveled to Banff and the Canadian Rockies, then Northern Minnesota. She also attended a concert in a friend’s backyard and heard Mickey Dolenz from The Monkees. Janet says that while he is 78 he has not lost his chops! In August, her travels continue as she is off on a Viking cruise around Iceland.

Over the years the Northshore Concert Band name has evolved but our commitment to making a substantial contribution to musical life through musical excellence, promoting wind music, leadership in community music, and commitment to music education has remained constant.
In 1956 Northshore Concert Band was founded as the Northbrook American Legion Community Concert Band, holding its first rehearsal at the Geo. W. Benjamin American Legion Post No. 791 in Northbrook, IL.
In 1958, the group is renamed the Northbrook Community Band.

On June 4, 2023, we performed American Celebration, the final concert of our 2022/23 Season. In addition to performing music that celebrated all things American, we recognized and celebrated three members of the Northshore Concert Band family with The Director’s Award.
The Director’s Award is presented by the Artistic Director of NCB to members exhibiting strong musical leadership, professionalism, and contributions to the ensemble. It was last bestowed on a Band member in 2019 so this year NCB Artistic Director Mallory Thompson presented 3 awards.

On Monday, May 22, the NCB trombone section held its sixth annual master class. Leading the master class was R. Douglas Wright, the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal trombone since 1995.
