Beloved Community Member,
Last May, our community showed up in force as senators voted away our essential rights. We made it clear that no matter what the unicameral says, trans Nebraskans do belong. Now, months later, you have one ..read more

First it was “Stop the steal!” and now, it’s “Stop the nominations!”
Republicans seem to only care about stopping things, not actually getting stuff done.
Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) has made headlines this week for all the wrong reasons. The former Auburn football coach has held up over 270 military promotions now, with some believing that the number may reach over 600 by the end of the year.
For context, the Senate usually approves the promotions of military officers in large groups, that way, avoiding having to make a full, 100-member roll call on each individual promotion. However ..read more

The Republicans have a Speaker, and his name is Mike Johnson!
After a three week public trainwreck, the GOP has finally got their guy. It’s only taken 21 days, 4 failed Speaker designees, an international crisis, and a partridge in a pear tree for Republicans to realize that our country actually needs a government to function.
So, while it was fun to get in my freebies and score some political points, I’m honestly just relieved that we have someone. Don’t get me wrong, they picked an awful guy for the job, even their own party thinks so. When asked her thoughts about Speaker designee John ..read more

As the battle for Speaker of the House of Representatives rages on, Nebraska’s own Don Bacon has found himself caught in the crossfire.
Bacon, who represents the Omaha area, is one of roughly 20 Republicans who has refused to vote for Jim Jordan as Speaker of the House.
Jordan is best known for covering up sexual abuse allegations at Ohio State’s wrestling program, so, safe to say he’s not one of our nation’s best.
Rep. Bacon believes that Jim Jordan is too close to the Freedom Caucus, a group that includes the Matt Gaetz’ and Marjorie Taylor-Greene’s of the world. And honestly, good on Don B ..read more

It’s the universal language. It’s why I spend 5 days a week working. It’s what makes the world go ‘round. And it’s fundamental to our politics.
During campaigns, money is at the forefront of voters’ minds. As political analyst and Bill Clinton advisor James Carville said, “It’s the economy, stupid.”
When campaigns are finally over we spend legislative sessions and Presidential administrations debating how much people should get taxed, where that tax money should go, and what specific projects it should be spent on.
Politics is just a giant game of facilitating money, and inherently opportunity ..read more

2023 Nelson Gala Recap
The 2023 Ben Nelson Gala was a monumental success! We had an unforgettable time honoring Democratic elected officials, leaders, and supporters from all corners of our state. The feedback we have received has been overwhelming. We had an awesome display of musical diversity from Mariachi Rey Azteca to the Destruction Drumline to classic country by Kiley and Company. Tony Vargas set the tone with an inspirational opening and Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird was a superb host. We brought the house down not once, but twice with galvanizing keynote speeches by both Tennessee Repres ..read more

Kevin McCarthy YOU are no longer Speaker of the House.
I almost feel bad for the dude, he’s not even the best Kevin at protecting the House. At least Kevin McAllister was able to stave off Harry and Marv in Home Alone– Mr. McCarthy over here can’t even keep Matt Gaetz at bay!
On Tuesday, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz banded together with 10 of the GOP’s most extreme members to bring the McCarthy Speakership to an end. After McCarthy struck a deal with Democrats to keep the government open, the MAGA extremists decided that he had gone too far. Yep… even keeping the government open is too fa ..read more

Despite speaking on the 2023 Farm Bill and pushing for more funding earlier this year, all three congressional representatives from our state failed Nebraska farmers and ranchers and allowed the Bill to expire (the Bill is updated every 5 years). Congressman Don Bacon was one of the most vocal and did nothing. Our friends at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) said it best:
It’s been five days since Don Bacon let the Farm Bill expire, and now he’s admitting that he’s punting farmers to the “back of the line” as he and House Republicans continue to be complete ..read more
