SPORT REFLECTION #26: Being “Better Together” In The World of Youth Soccer
Project 88.7 News
by Jeff Turner
3d ago
Here at Project 88.7, we preach and LIVE being “better together.” It sounds simple and sure, it may even seem cliche, but it is something we take very seriously and aim to apply it to all aspects of our lives. So what does being “better together” mean and where does this fit in coaching youth soccer of all places? Let me give you some context: I coach soccer for the Idaho Olympic Development Program, an identification platform for the United States Youth National team. It is a program designed to identify, develop, and showcase the top players in our state. I am currently coaching the 2012 G ..read more

STAYING HEALTHY-ISH #22: What Is Your Story?
Project 88.7 News
by Kristin The Island Girl

My favorite place in any store is the checkout line. Normally I think this place is the least favorite or most stressful for people, but I love it. The reason? I love hearing people’s stories. The people that I am standing with in the line or the person that is helping me have stories to share about the loaf of bread they are buying or why they work at that store. What makes all of us unique are our stories. God created us all uniquely to carry these stories with us.  It is when we share the stories and find a common ground or learn something new is when we see the tapestry of the Creator ..read more

WEEKEND THOUGHTS #82: A December Shocker
Project 88.7 News
by Kevin McNeese
1w ago
There’s a really strange thing that is happening to more of us every 30ish days, and today, it’s occurring again. As the calendar flips to a new month (oh hi, December), we all look at each other shocked and gasp, “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S [INSERT MONTH]!” Every time I say it (which is monthly as of late) I feel like an idiot. Seriously. I just said the same thing last month. And the month before. Am I that dense? What I’m communicating is that time continues to race by, and for a multitude of reasons, I’m shocked–truly shocked–that another 30 days have zoomed by. I’m not alone. Most of us feel it ..read more

HOT TRACKS: One House “I’d Be Lying”
Project 88.7 News
by Jasmin Patterson
2w ago
We just added “I’d Be Lying” by One House featuring Sondae and Mitch Wong to Project 88.7! “I’d Be Lying” meets us right where most of us live: realizing that we’re not perfect and we don’t have it all together. We all have good days and tough days in life. And honestly, the tough days show up more often than we’d like to admit. The artists acknowledge the human urge we all feel to pretend to be okay when we’re not. But they also ask the question, “why?” Why do we pretend to have it all together? Why do we resist God instead of surrendering our hearts and struggles to Him? The song’s lyrics ta ..read more

WEEKEND THOUGHTS #80: Quiet and Still
Project 88.7 News
by Kevin McNeese
1M ago
It took about 2 hours this past Tuesday for my mind to just shut up. The 90-minute hike up the mountain was full of internal chatter, despite my best efforts to soak up the views and enjoy the brisk solo hike. It was snowing. I was absolutely alone. No one parked at the trail head. No human prints in the recent snowfall. A dear track, a fox track, a fresh bear track. Great. Quiet and still. Except for my mind. Stressing about taking time off mid-week with the to-do list in full panic mode. Wanting to be purposeful during my intentional solo recharge. Frustrated at an out-of-control thought lif ..read more

SPORT REFLECTION #25: The Difference A Smile Makes
Project 88.7 News
by Jeff Turner
1M ago
A smile shows a lot about your confidence. It causes others to see you as someone who is approachable. I have learned to do this as a coach, especially as I work with young children. Other coaches and parents have commented on how players from on my team–and even players from other teams–are drawn to me. I have learned to smile. It’s actually a skill I have learned from coaching courses many years ago. When you are around people whom you don’t know or are not around frequently, it’s best to smile to break down barriers. It creates psychological safety. For my players, especially the youngest ..read more

STAYING HEALTHY-ISH #20: The Super Spice of Fall

Fall=cinnamon Cinnamon=Fall It really is the ultimate flavor of the season! I’ve started putting cinnamon on a lot of things lately, because I found out that it has amazing health benefits! Besides being a great anti-inflammatory, it has been said that it also helps to prevent diabetes and heart disease. Cinnamon also has the amazing power of being a stress reducer, which is why you see it used in aromatherapy. It is filled with antioxidants, which helps the body fight off stress and free radicals. (It will also help to lower your cholesterol!) Here are some of the ways I have used cinnamo ..read more

HOT TRACKS: Hulvey & Forrest Frank “Altar”
Project 88.7 News
by Jasmin Patterson
1M ago
We just added “Altar” by Hulvey and Forrest Frank to Project 88.7! “Altar” is about coming to Jesus, our shame being washed away, and living to honor His name. Jesus died on a cross, shedding His own blood for us, and rose from the dead three days later so that we could be forgiven for our sins. When we believe in Jesus and what He did for us, He forgives our sins against Him and we get to have a personal relationship with Him in this life and in eternity.  But when we come to Jesus, He also washes away the guilt and shame we feel because of our sin and leads us into a brand new life wher ..read more
