I'm having an issue figuring out how to connect the 2 wires that are for the overflow on a new condensate pump. On my system I have an overflow switch where the wire from it goes to a wire nut then the pump wire is tied into it. The other pump wire goes to a wire nut then up to my air handler and assume thermostat. It doesnt matter which wire goes where with the current pump that I have as the wires are the same. On the new pump it has 3 spots for the wires. Alarm, Run and Common. I know... Need help with wiring a condensate pump ..read more

Replacement dryer/exhaust fan vent hoods

I have vent hoods on an exterior wall for dryer and bathroom fan. They are difficult to clean (25 ft in the air) and they now are propped open a bit with lint/gunk. Birds are getting in, wasps are nesting in them. I am going to replace them. Wondering, is there a type of replacement that is best? Metal or plastic damper flaps? Best type of bird proof screen than can be removed to clean the damper. Best type of damper to resist clogging with lint. Yeah, It's asking... Replacement dryer/exhaust fan vent hoods ..read more

I just got a Miller furnace( front air intake) installed (mobile home model). Also got a Rheem A/C unit installed with it. Just fired the furnace up 2 days ago and it runs and sounds fine. Turned on the A/C yesterday and the blower runs at high speed and is quite loud. My installer said he was going to contact Miller rep to see about getting it to run at a slower (quieter) speed. Is there an easy fix , like rewiring some leads, or am I SOL ..read more

Hi, Is it possible to find these and purchase replacements return air grill latches, and if so, can someone point me in that direction? Existing ones have been broken and I'm running out of latches to hold the grill up, and would rather not replace the entire air return if I didn't have to. Sorry for the blurry pics but I don't have a fancy smartphone ..read more

I have a 90 degree elbow going from the gas connection to my stove, in the basement, then up to the stove. I want to remove the elbow then put in a T and run galvanized about 4 feet to outside and put a quick connect. The pipes are 1/2 inch at the elbow, so I was thinking about getting 1/2 inch galvanized and tying in, then running it outside and getting a conversion kit for my Weber. Is there any reason not to do this? It seems pretty straight forward ..read more

Hi Everyone I don’t know much about heat exchange so hoping someone could help me here. I’m trying to heat up water in a heat exchanger using normal cooking oil. Is this even possible? I have a 60 plate heat exchanger and have connected it to a closed loop heat exchange flow (oil in this car), however the water doesn’t seem to be heating up. The oil temperature is north of 80C, I’m using a 3-4 LPM pump to pump oil into the heat exchanger. I have a transparent pipe connector one end so can... Water heater pressure relief valve failure on a 2001 natural gas water heater has me thinking. I bought this house three years ago and the systems are older and less efficient than I’d like. Two natural gas water heaters next to eachother, installed in 2001 and 2016. An 83% efficient (supposedly) ~185,000 BTU boiler. It had been set at 180 F when I purchased the house but dropped it down to 140 F and all has been fine since. We also have a natural gas six-burner cooktop, and I ran a... New line set

I'm replacing my 20yr old 2T York condensing unit with a new Bosch IDS BOVB20 3T inverter unit. My old line set suction line was 5/8" dia. . It is an absolute bear to replace the line set because of a drywalled ceiling and a feed that runs up thru a chimney chase. Based on the attached Table from the manual, I take that to read that the 5/8" is an exceptional option? If so what if any issues may I face using the 5/8 ..read more

Hello. I am looking for suggestions on what I should do to with my bathroom ceiling. See the pictures below for my context. The heightened ceiling has lights on the ledge area. The ceiling does not finish and close off where it meets the ledge. You can see insulation behind the lights in the photograph below. This gap in the ceiling lets in so many insects into our bathroom its unreal. I know that I shouldn't just close it off as the roof needs to breath, but what if I was able to...
