You may not be aware that Halloween is originally a Catholic feast that is rooted from the Christian tradition of observing an important event, or a holy day, on the eve or evening of the said event/holy day. Another example is New Year. We hold our New Year’s day celebration on the evening of the New Year. We call this New Year’s Eve. Additionally, our Catholic tradition of observing Holy Mass on Sunday can be done on ..read more

A disciple is one who follows, embraces, teaches and spreads the teachings of a leader or master. Hence, discipleship is the act of bringing forth, making known and spreading the teachings of his master. The First Discipleship Act on Earth That girl was Mary, the one whose womb was found worthy to contain God (all three in one person: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit). The girl who was found worthy to usher in the coming of God to the world and become a human being. Through her response of \”Yes\” to God she agreed to become the Mother of God. The hard rule of keeping quiet on Holy Week And yet we were to start our silent retreat at home not on Good Friday but beginning Holy Thursday up to (Black) Saturday night. We were forbidden to talk aloud nor make sounds on our feet when walking around the house. And we were not allowed to take a bath on Good Friday. My mother always bid everyone to be extra careful on Good Friday. But there was one person at home who didn\’t care about those Holy Week family rules. Father descended the long back door stairs from the kitchen carrying a bunch of big and fat nails, a hammer, and a s ..read more

The hard rule of keeping our mouths shut on Holy Week Back in my childhood me and my siblings had to observe silence at home. This was one of the hard rules we had to follow during Holy Week. I remember how my mother ordered us – all eight children in the family – not to make noise on Good Friday. And yet we were to start our silent retreat not on Good Friday but beginning Holy Thursday up to (Black) Saturday night. We were not allowed to sing, strum the guitar or play the piano. Especially on Good Friday. We were forbidden to talk aloud nor make sounds on our feet when walking ar ..read more

Why do Catholics Celebrate Sabbath Rest on Sunday instead of Saturday
Catholic Women Disciples Blog
by hermie.org@gmail.com

We Catholics do not celebrate Sabbath – as a day of rest – on a Saturday but we celebrate our day of rest on Sunday, the glorious day of Jesus’s Resurrection. Because Sunday is the day of Jesus Resurrection, we pay our highest form of worship to God on Sunday. Thus, we make Sunday always a special day in honor of Jesus glorious resurrection. Hence, on Sunday we deem it proper to refrain from all labors, and make this day solely a day for Jesus, and the day of rest for Catholics. Hence, on this day, we are bound to abstain from all works and all other business concerns that will render us ..read more
