I was diagnosed March of 2017 and had my microscopic surgery May 24, 2017.  This year I will be 5 years  cancer free.  When I heard I had cancer, I just wanted to get rid of the invader. R.J. One of Duane’s favorite holidays is Christmas. It’s a special time of year he looks forward to where he can spend lots of quality time with his wife of 50 years, Elaine, his two kids and four grandchildren. Duane Brown is a great guy. He is retired from the Calgary Police Service and loves to spend his free time, travelling, volunteering and meeting new people. December 6, 2021 – I want to advise our members, volunteers, and staff that I will be passing on the Acting Executive Director role and will be taking a 6 month sabbatical from my role as Board Chair.  The Board is supportive of this decision based on my need to focus on my personal health.  I recently completed major shoulder surgery and feel it is important to focus on this over the next six months.  Dr. Dushinski who is our Co-Chair will take on the Board Chair role and Amanda Baxter will step into the role of Acting Executive Director. On August 30, 2021, Dr. Jun Kawakami lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Just as he touched so many people in his life – his death has left a large hole in the hearts of many. Due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases within Alberta, Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre has made the difficult decision to temporarily pause our efforts to reintroduce the MAN VAN into the community. As always, the health and safety of our patients, staff, volunteers, partners, and community remains our biggest consideration.
