Dr. Spaner founded the Women for Men’s Health (WFMH) initiative after witnessing the disparity between women’s and men’s health firsthand. Motivated by the visible gap in the current system, which frequently sees men fall through the healthcare cracks, the initiative’s primary goals are to shift men’s behaviour towards preventing treatable disease and maintaining good health, as well as mobilizing women in this effort. I was diagnosed March of 2017 and had my microscopic surgery May 24, 2017.  This year I will be 5 years  cancer free.  When I heard I had cancer, I just wanted to get rid of the invader. R.J. One of Duane’s favorite holidays is Christmas. It’s a special time of year he looks forward to where he can spend lots of quality time with his wife of 50 years, Elaine, his two kids and four grandchildren. Duane Brown is a great guy. December 6, 2021 – I want to advise our members, volunteers, and staff that I will be passing on the Acting Executive Director role and will be taking a 6 month sabbatical from my role as Board Chair.  The Board is supportive of this decision based on my need to focus on my personal health.  I recently completed major shoulder surgery and feel it is important to focus on this over the next six months.  Dr. Dushinski who is our Co-Chair will take on the Board Chair role and Amanda Baxter will step into the role of Acting Executive Director. On January 28, 2022, we will once again be at the Hotel Arts, raising funds and recommitting our efforts to reduce the disparities that exist in gender health. The world has definitely changed since we last met. Our fourth rendition of The Big Ball could not come at a more important time. On August 30, 2021, Dr. Jun Kawakami lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Just as he touched so many people in his life – his death has left a large hole in the hearts of many. Tom Valentine, an oil and gas lawyer, a world traveler, a father of four, and a man who lives life to the fullest, was taken by surprise in 2018 when he received two separate cancer diagnoses.
