And the day as well. It's officially hurricane/rainy season in Merida, Mexico and the rains have come almost every day. Sometimes it's a nice little shower, other times it's an audition for Noah's Ark. I'm not complaining, we need the rain, as it was a very dry winter and spring here in Merida. The only downside to the heavy rains is the loss of electricity. It's not a guarantee but it certainly happens enough that If I were a betting woman I could win a few bets on when it will occur. With that predictably comes some tips to help you make it through the "dark" minutes or hours. 1. During th ..read more

Grocery Shopping in a Foreign Country Ain't Easy!

Also known as tips for grocery shopping in a foreign country. Either way. Both titles work and I'm here to help you "work" on adjusting to grocery shopping in Mexico. One of the key points of life in America is grocery shopping in bulk! I don't know if it's a good or bad thing but it's a thing and we, yes a collective we, have gotten use to shopping for big jars and boxes of everything we don't need in amounts that really aren't necessary. Along with amassing enough for meals for 10 to 15 days. Seriously who needs a 32 ounce jar of spaghetti sauce for a family of 3. No one does, no one does ..read more

This weather!

We've been here almost two years and the weather is always a topic of conversation before arriving, after arriving and day to day! It is nothing to meet a stranger on the streets of Merida and the conversation center around "how hot" it is among other things. The other things being if it's raining or not. That's it. Well lately that has changed as we experience what can only be described as a "mild" summer. When I say mild I mean we haven't seen above 100 degrees more than 8 days since May or June. Now this could be speculation on my part, the 8 could be slightly higher but not by much. As I ..read more

It's a weird time in the world right now for various reasons (Covid-19, inflation, gas costs) and the travel industry is no exception. Covid-19 pandemic has changed the business and leisure of travel and you need to be aware and flexible if you are planning on traveling within the next six months to a year. 1. All airlines are canceling flights left and right for various reasons (no staff, sickness). The easiest way to navigate this is to add an extra day (if possible) to your vacation or event plans. If you have specific events planned on your vacation, arrive a day early. This early travel ..read more

Is Merida becoming "more" expensive?

Maybe. I mean the rest of the world is so it would be logical that Merida would follow "the trend". With that being said I answer that question along with talking about other things that you may need to think about if you are considering a long term visit or move to Merida. Including food, housing and automobile costs. Food, housing and everyday living expenses are looked at for you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNrUQ-4qu1A&t=437s Kat #wanderingsoup #meridamexico #ismeridaexpensive #costoflivingmexico ..read more

Well at least that's what I'm saying today. I can't believe that I haven't posted a blog post since January and we haven't done a vlog since Feb or March (one of those months). No real reason if I'm being honest except "life happens". Seriously just living and getting caught up in it. Amber has been working working, I've been "working" and wondering why my knee decided to stop working. Our son has been doing what needs to be done for school. All that to say, we just living. Didn't have anything to share, while going thru a minor period of burn out after the move. Settling in and spending dolla ..read more

If you would have told me a month or two ago that moving to a new unfurnished home in Mexico would be this time consuming, I would have scoffed in your face. Laughed loud and long for no reason other than I didn't know any better!! Ya'll this has been one of the not so easiest moves of my life and I'm a Veteran, I'm use to moving every few years. Starting over, learning new things. Moving around here is a new version of "moving around". So many little things you have to think of. So many decisions to be made in a language that isn't native. I for one am looking forward to the end of the month ..read more
