Maryland's Senior Senator, Ben Cardin, announced his retirement on May 1st.
Will Jawando, Montgomery County Councilmember and activist was the first to officially put his name in as a candidate for U.S. Senate. He announced on Tuesday, May 2nd with this video.
On Thursday, May 4th, Congressman David Trone announced he would be running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Cardin. Trone currently represents Maryland's 6th district that covers Garrett, Allegany, Frederick and Washington Counties.

Early voting starts at 8am Tuesday May 2nd as residents of College Park search for a new Mayor.
Voters can cast their ballot from 8am-7 pm at Davis Hall at 9217 51st Avenue, in College Park.
In March a jury returned an indictment on former College Park Mayor Patrick Wojahn for 80 total counts of child pornography charges. He resigned and Mayor Pro Tem Denise Mitchell stepped in. She is running in this election.

Sen. Ben Cardin's announcement Monday that he wouldn't seek re-election in 2024, didn't come as a surprise to elections analyst Geoffrey Skelley.
"Cardin had recently reported very little fundraising in the first quarter of 2023," said Skelley, with FiveThirtyEight of the 79-year-old Senator. "There was some thought that that was a sign that he probably wasn't going to run again.
The senior Senator will finish out his third term in January 2025, so Marylanders will still be hearing from him.

Senator Ben Cardin announced Monday that he will not seek re-election in 2024.

The U.S. first lady Jill Biden said in a recent interview that President Joe Biden is "not done" and signaled very clearly that he is ready to run for president again. U.S. President Joe Biden underwent a routine physical on Thursday at Walter Reed National Military Center. White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor released details of the physical which was presented to the public.
