What is wrong with my blueberries?

I bought two 3-year-old O'neal plants 4-5 weeks ago and they were repotted into larger containers using a soil mix recipe I found online, comprised of 1/3 peat moss (initial PH ~3.9), 1/3 native soil with compost and 1/3 shredded pine bark with perlite, so the PH of the mix should be low enough. I used the same soil mix on two other 2-year-old blueberry plants (Biloxy and Star) that I repotted at the same time and they are doing fine. I have not fertilized yet since as I was planning to do... Read more ..read more

I have acquired raspberries!

I got a Raspberry Jewel (Rubus occidentalis) and a Raspberry Purple Royalty (Rubus X Neglectus) shoot? Stem? Cutting? from clearance at Walmart (because of course I did). The Royalty doesn't seem like it's doing great, it may have been too far gone, but when I took the Jewel out of the root bag, it had little suckers growing in the bag! So I'm hopeful about it surviving. Does anyone have any advice about these particular types? Or warnings about what to avoid doing to them? Thanks ..read more

Apricot trees keep dying in my father's garden

After his retirement, my father started tending the garden a lot. He has a lot of vegetables and fruits in it. However, most trees from some reason die very young. On year they are healthy, bearing fruit, and the next the are almost dead. He, and generally people living here, call it "the stroke" (like in humans). The tree got a stroke and one side of it's branches is dead. My father prunes the dead branches, but almost nothing is left from the tree. I would like to help my father because... Growing peach cuttings indoors

Howdy all, I’m attempting to grow some peach trees from cuttings I harvested at a local orchard. I’ve got about 21 cuts in total, 14 in soil and 7 in water, of 2 variants - Junegold and Cary-Mac. I’m in an apartment with decent size overhangs over the windows, so get very little sun even on the patio. I think a portion of the patio gets about 1-2 hours around sunset, so I’m trying to start these indoors until I can finish my paneled greenhouse enclosure. I’m a little concerned my current... Need some help. I've got a few nectarine and peach trees in pots in the back yard and I'm continually fighting fire ants in the pots. Not sure what they will eventually do to the trees, and I would like to eat some of the fruit when ripe, but not sure what I can do to get rid of them. Sure could use your help. Thank you ..read more

Is there a variety of watermelon that does well with limited sunshine? Like the Shady Lady variety of tomatoes that can produce well with something like five or six hours of sunlight a day? I'm particularly thinking along the lines of an icebox watermelon along the lines of a Sugar Baby size that I can grow in grow bags ..read more

Hello, first time trying to grow fruit trees. Central NC near Raleigh. Just bought a dwarf pink lady & semi dwarf Fuji. Both actively flowering. Pink lady is 7/8” diameter. Fuji is 1-1/4” diameter. I’m unclear if I should prune right away, or if it’s too late already this season & I should wait? The Fuji seems to have 2 leaders, so at some point I think I need to prune one off, but I’m not sure if I should do it now or not. Lastly my understanding is I shouldn’t let them try to bear this...
