In my opinion, June 10, 2021 is a sad day for Floyd County. Mr. Danny Adkins Jr. resigned from being superintendent.  Mr. Adkins was hired 3 years ago during a troublesome time in the Floyd County school system.  They had just received an audit report that showed widespread cheating on testing and named several individuals that had orchestrated the entire deception.  The tension in central office was toxic and directors were divided.  The school board knew that hiring a superintendent that could change all of this “tension and cheating” was imperative.  ..read more

Sources that were present at the Floyd County Board of Education meeting (The Big Show) on February 22, 2021 claims that you could cut the tension with a knife before the meeting and even more so once the meeting began. First off, let me say congratulations because I think the FCBOE (The Big Show) finally got it right. It only took them over a month, but they finally decided to let the students go back to in person learning. When the Floyd County Board of Education didn’t hire an employee for Superintendent a few years ago, there was much scrutiny as to why.  At that time it wasn’t public knowledge of a special education audit that the FCBOE had undergone from the Kentucky Department of Education. Mrs. Tonya Horn-Williams was the FCBOE’s (Floyd County Board of Education’s) district chief academic officer during that audit which showed testing violations. The Prestonsburg City Council meet tonight, January 28, 2021 at 6:00pm via live streaming on Facebook. It was fairly a short meeting. The one thing that caught my eye was that the city of Prestonsburg is entering into a contract with their neighboring city of Allen to provide police coverage. I’m sure that will be greatly appreciated by the citizens of Allen.  A police presence will surely help with the safety in their town.
