It was a great pleasure to collaborate with two of my favorite organizations – Kentuckians for the Commonwealth (KFTC) and the Transformative Justice Coalition (TJC) to help maximize voter turnout in Kentucky’s 2023 election.
I am Quincy Robinson, and I am a senior sociology major at the University of Louisville, a TJC Fellow, and a KFTC voter empowerment contractor. I attended TJC’s Gen Z and Millennial Votes Matter Leadership Training in Houston, Texas during the spring season. While sharing space with over fifty young leaders, I was able to learn about different issues relat ..read more

Working as a Voter Empowerment Contractor with Kentuckians for The Commonwealth (KFTC) has been an amazing learning experience that enhanced my leadership and collaboration skills. I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with community members about energy justice issues, register new voters, and distribute voter guides with information about candidates. I am grateful for the experience.
”It was very interesting to learn about the intersections between issues, community, and elections. I had the opportunity to learn from different community members about the issues that impact them a ..read more

This is my first year as a Voter Empowerment Contractor with KFTC, and being active in the election. I am not able to vote and the closest thing to voting for me is encouraging and educating people who can vote to vote. To campaign the restoration of voting rights petition influenced people who may not think their vote matters, have a change of mind to vote.
I share personal experiences making myself vulnerable to strangers who after hearing my story, takes it more personally and go vote for me and them.
”The different tabling events showed me that empowerment and engagem ..read more

My name is Elisha Clark, Louisville resident and member of the Jefferson County Chapter for KFTC. I joined KFTC this past summer after attending a weekend yearly conference in Lexington, held by KFTC. I met so many amazing people who share a similar desire to help others and make the world a better place.
”KFTC provides me with an outlet and community of like minded individuals who want to change our great state (and the world) for the better.”
The work KFTC does goes beyond a desire to help others, their actions lead to results for all Kentuckians. I’ve always had ..read more

My Name is Alonzo D. Malone as I look back to late July until Nov 8 , 2023. These 130 days have been rewarding and fulfilling. To actually share my reflections as a Voter empowerment Contractor with KFTC, I have to go back to 2010 when I fought for myself and others to be able to have our voting rights restored. I lobby with KFTC on a voluntary basis with Joe Gallenstein and Serena Owens. They told me how to advocate for restoration of voting rights with the different senators and Representatives.
”When I became a contractor for KFTC to register people to vote it became more of ..read more

My journey of impact with KFTC has given me a whole new outcome on every day of living. I was able to get the opportunity to share some positive inputs and suggested ideas to the residents who are facing the same impact of high energy bills, the smell in our city, climate change impact, and the election. I attended some community meetings/workshops and community events and gave out voter guides - which was my first time seeing one. I had the opportunity to attend the public meetings with the city government.

Working as a voter empowerment contractor with KFTC has been such a meaningful experience for me. I was very active in my community for most of my adult life prior to experiencing incarceration and becoming a felon. I volunteered at multiple organizations, I was active in the recovery community, and I felt like an active participant in life. I had some negative experiences in recovery and distanced myself from communities that had been my home for so long. These had been places where I found like minded people who were determined to be better and do better, to help o ..read more

When I entered the theater after breakfast and seen all the shoulder rolls, hips movements and drums thumping... I knew then that this event was going to be lit.
Shortly after that, I sat in total awe as I watched four beautiful, brilliant black women take the stage as leaders in our communities. I listened to their backgrounds and where they came from. I listened to them as they spoke passionately of their purpose and reasoning for showing up everyday to do the work they do. Most awakening, I watched how the people at KFTC’s annual meeting showed out and SUPPORTED them… I knew ..read more

While my job as a theatre director and producer and my participation as a volunteer with community organizations might seem disparate, I see a direct and critical connection between my role at Actors Theatre of Louisville (ATL) and my membership with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth (KFTC). The two use different approaches in service of the same goal – a more just and equitable society – and I believe they fundamentally need each other to succeed. Actors Theatre of Louisville is an arts and culture organization as social enterprise, and our primary tool is storytelling. Kentucki ..read more
