It’s been a very long time since the last post. We kept up with our videos but it all ended in a hurry and we were under a lot of pressure and stress. After Nina came back from hospital we did some soul searching and realised that, with all the “road-blocks” due to Covid 19 , with huge quarantine issues in all the countries along our route home, breakages, Panama Canal transit , Cyclone & hurricanes to avoid not to mention the $30,000+ tax & import for our yacht to New Zealand.
SO!, we are back in NZ , have bought a small trailer yacht and will spend the next few years exploring the ma ..read more

On the 6th July our crew member Elke from Germany was scheduled to arrive in Bodrum to help us sail to Malta or Italy. In the week leading up to her arrival we tidied and reorganized the boat. Our spare room has turned into a storage room over the last year, so it took a bit of thinking and resorting to free the space up.
Nina and I had mum and daughters day where we went to town to browse shops and go out for ice cream, tea etc. We found a nice little shop with lots of beads to make your own bracelets and necklaces. We had a nice time and coming back home we set to make our own bracelets ..read more

We got ready early in the morning to leave Marmaris for Bozburum. There were strong winds forecast and the bays in Bozburum provide beautiful hide away’s from the wind. We had already been there last autumn and loved it. It was a 36 nm journey and we motored almost all the way as there was no wind.

I was super worried about Nina’s shoulder pain and with no real answers from the hospital visit in Marmaris, other than that nothing was fractured my active mind painted all sorts of scary scenarios. In times like this I really wish we were back home with our trusted health network ..read more

On the 27th April we found out that there was another full lockdown announced, just a day before we wanted to head for Marmaris. So we decided to stay in the Gorcek National park instead, as there are so many places to tuck away for all wind directions. We left Buyukage Koyu and sailed back to Gocek. The lockdown sounded so strict, so we had to get more gas for cooking, more data for staying online and seriously stock up our boat with groceries. So the next 2 days were spent going back and forth filling the boat and organising as much as we could to hopefully get through the 3 weeks.

From the 8th April 2021
After our lovely day in Kayakoy a not so pleasant day for me followed. I had lost a bit of filling in one of my teeth after flossing and it felt quite sensitive, so I thought its better to get onto it straight away while still in Fethiye, a bigger town. I enquired on one of the Mediterranean Cruising Facebook groups for recommendations – a wealth of knowledge and generous help. There was a dentist right at the waterfront, obviously there for medical tourists called Holident. I called them and got an appointment same day. It was a really fancy clinic with all the latest ..read more

We had a fine, sunny day in Fethiye, the marina nearby and lots of washing in the basket, so I declared it wash day. We all piled in the dinghy incl. all the dirty washing and headed off to the Marina. In Fethiye the water is too dirty to make water, it would clog up our filters in a flash. In the marina they have washing machines that can be used with coins you buy in the marina office. While we waited for the washing to be done we all had showers, which were unfortunately only lukewarm, but still better than a sink wash.
There was a new café that had opened in the mar ..read more

Our last day in Kas Marina had arrived and the wind was still raging. There was water splashing everywhere and we realised we had one of the suckiest spots in the Marina. Tim had tied a few extra ropes on the jetty and we had our fingers crossed that we where safe.
The photo doesn’t do all the splashing action justice, but it was impossible to get from the boat off the jetty without getting wet. Crazy
In the morning it was a bit quieter a first and Dot and Jonathan came over for a cup of tea and to stock up their groceries. I also took the opportunity to get a load o ..read more

20th March 2021
Saturday we were finally able to move on to Kas, with the blustery winds having a brief break. We left 9.15 am for our 22 nautical mile journey and arrived at 3 pm in the afternoon. It was a pleasant day.
We where all super excited to get to Kas, because Jonathan and Dot from Sunday where anchored in the bay there and we hadn’t seen them in many months. They where our lockdown buddies in Athens, buying a boat at the same time as we did. Their paperwork got completed a few weeks before ours, so we never managed to catch up with them again until now. Almost exactly to the day we ..read more

When we woke up in the morning I took Lucy for a last marina and breakwater walk. Tim filled up our water tanks and did a few last minute down and uploads. The kids visited their several fur babies for a last time and we all had a walk around the marina to say good bye to all our marina friends. Late morning we started the motor and dropped the lines to our save heaven to head out to sea once more. We had our friends waving us off at the end of the jetties and it gave us warm fuzzies to have been welcomed into this lovely marina community.
