Isolation creativity not craziness

Taking the opportunity to do some fun stuff at home with the kids while everyone is practicing social distancing...sometimes being creative can be a challenge, so here are a few thing we decided to do: we made the wild Wild West come alive with our own stick horses! Now I’m no artist, but the kids had a blast coloring heads and gluing on tails and riding the sticks around our house. All you need are some sticks from a tree outside, paper, hot glue, and pipe cleaners or felt (even yarn would work for hair ..read more

No I’m not being chased by the police. I started jumping in 10ks and 1/2 marathons again after years of not racing. We all carry baggage, and for a very long time I had a lot of running and triathlon baggage. Today I’m chasing around three kids and for some reason (maybe maturity) I no longer carry that baggage. In fact I can watch videos of the old Mariel Running at Stanford, Footlocker, and the world championships and I don’t get that twisted-sad-anxious-gut. That feeling that I missed my calling. Ok, so this is a little random and might take a little courage but, on a day when the kids are home and dying to be entertained and the weather isn’t cooperating take the kids tractor shopping, seriously! There was a parking lot full of two story tall combines and harvesters all kinds of machinery and no customers around so I took the kids inside the store (after walking a couple of rows of John Deer tractors outside). Inside they have tons of toys, clothes, oh yeah and farming equipment. But the ..read more

One afternoon there wasn’t much going on and being the restless soul that I am, I had to get out of the house. Logan was younger and extremely into airplanes (his father being a pilot). We had frequented the Local FBO and the guys and gals there were always very accommodating and generous with their time. We’ve ridden fuel tank trucks, taken tours of firefighting helicopters and airplanes, we’ve been driven up and down the ramp on a side-by-side, we’ve stuck our heads into every open hangar we possibly could...but one day, we called the Tower. Now in a big city this might be close to impossibl ..read more

Caves, Caves, Caves

North of Twin Falls there are several caves that you can enter for a modest fee and a short walk. The Ice Cave, is exactly that, with slippery wooden plank trails leading you back a quarter of a mile into the ground. It is definitely a must do in the area. But if you don't want to pay to enter a cave and you and your kids are a bit more adventurous, head to the Tea Kettle Caves. Its off the beaten path by quite a ways but well worth the journey. There is one cave you can easily walk into and another that requires a ladder to descend ..read more
