A Defense of Talking Religion and Politics
Proverbs 31:9 “Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute.”
The mighty verse above is oft overlooked because it precedes the equally mighty portion we all typically study about how to be a Proverbs 31 woman.
In the King James it rhymes, which I find particularly pleasing, and an easy target for memorizing with your children over the dinner table. Maybe Shane and Shane or Andrew Schumacher or Amanda Proctor could put it to music.
Unborn children are a prime example of the mute today. They are voiceless and need us ..read more

On Grieving Well.
Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and he took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her; thus Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death. Genesis 24:67 NASB1995
I had asked what you wanted me to write on and one person said she would like me to write about how to process grief. This is of course no exhaustive manual on how to grieve, but merely a few ponderings that have helped me as of late. I make no claims that I have done any of this well, but God has been faithful to bring some of His treasures to my mind, that He had laid up in my heart for ..read more

Moving off-grid is all the rage these days in Christendom. Digging bunkers and filling storehouses with years worth of food and necessities is in vogue. There is wisdom in being prepared in case of a disaster, but remember-
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.… Matthew 5:14-16
Certain sects gaining ground for the last couple years have focused heavily on encouraging young women to move away from the “big, dirty city” to live “more ..read more

You know how some couples have a song? Well, my husband and I have a book series. We read the entire Ransom trilogy on and around our honeymoon, and most recently re-read That Hideous Strength (the third in the trilogy) together 14 years later. The first time we read it, it took a few days. Five kids later and this time it took us about a year. He would read me a couple pages before bed until he heard my pregnancy snore, and then we would chip away at it another night. Yes, it’s the RANSOM SERIES (according to Clive Staple himself, Jack to his close friends) and NOT the Space Trilogy as the da ..read more

“My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And of Your salvation all day long; For I do not know the sum of them. I will come with the mighty deeds of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.
Psalms 71:15 NASB1995
Those of you who read the short version of this on Instagram, maybe just scan to the last paragraph if you want. This expanded version of an important work God did in my life needed more than just a social media post.
Biblically, I must hold two truths in my mind simultaneously. Gods goodness and wrath. When I remember how God warned us what was to come ..read more

And the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel presented themselves to him from all places where they lived. For the Levites left their common lands and their holdings and came to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons cast them out from serving as priests of the Lord, and he appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat idols and for the calves that he had made. And those who had set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came after them from all the tribes of Israel to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lo ..read more

I was in a world where forgiveness had happened. One of my exes, with whom we had the most vitriolic behavior to one another was standing in the cold, handing out warm boiled eggs to passersby, and letting them heat themselves near the fire of his companions as they peeled and ate. He was doing this out of pure kindness. Some passersby refused out of some kind of distrust or fear. I took one, peeled it and then took it along with me. As I left, I looked at my ex and said, “Thanks Brian,” and we smiled at each other knowingly, with brotherly love in our hearts. I went on my way happy in the kno ..read more

December’s Glory and Preparing for the New Year.
I am sharing with you our December. It was a month of progress on our healing. Actually, I do not know if that is true. I do not even know if we have begun to process. There is a lot going on to say the least. I mean there is a lot going on for the whole world. Nevertheless, it was a month of ringing out the old, and ringing in the new, and preparing for the new year. I discovered that my favorite poem is Ring Out Wild Bells by Alfred Lord Tennyson. We set our minds to give our living daughters a wondrous winter.
Today I am looking back a ..read more

Thanks be to the quirky little writing prompts book I picked up at Savers (local thrift store in my parts), this was originally entitled 10 Original Thoughts That I Would Stuff Inside Fortune Cookies for Perfect Strangers to Find. That title did not sit well with me (aside from it being incredulously long), because I have a feeling that most people who would read my blog are not really fortune cookie people. I surely am not. I mean, the fortunes are good for a laugh. The cookies are saccharine cardboard. I changed it to 11 because I heard John Maxwell say at a conference that odd numbers are b ..read more

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
In my most previous article, I had alluded to something good God has worked together from Glory’s death. Today is the day I can share it with you. He worked it together for the good of His elect and that is not limited to Andrew and myself.
I just so happened to have been flown to Utah to give birth, the same week that a few families moved there to start Apologia Church Utah. Through God’s providence, we met them and one of them just so happene ..read more
