On July 11, 1782, British colonists including British Royal Governor Sir James Wright, fled Georgia. Wright had been the only colonial governor and Georgia the only colony to successfully implement the Stamp Act in 1765. As revolutionary fervor grew elsewhere in the colonies, Georgia remained the most loyal colony, declining to send delegates to the Continental Congress in 1774. Congress ordered the creation of the United States Marine Corps on July 11, 1798, after the Corps was inactive for a period following the Revolutionary War. From 1799 to 1921, Marine Corps Day was observed on Ju ..read more

Levi is an adult male Golden Retriever mix who is available for adoption from The Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, GA. Levi is a gorgeous Golden Retriever, which is no surprise. We have never seen an unattractive Golden. With that golden coat and fluffy feathering, they are absolutely showstoppers. Levi came in, was adopted for about 3 weeks, then returned, He was consistently getting out of the house and “chasing people”. Was he looking for friends? Someone to play with? Showing everyone he was a Houdini wannabe? We aren’t really sure. Obviously, Levi will need an adopte ..read more
