My wife has a citizen eco drive watch that has been used and abused heavily. I have replaced three of the watch strap links as they have worn through !!!! This model - https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2838799?clickSR=slp:term:citizen watch:13:48:1 On a number of occasions I have offered to buy her a "decent watch" (Omega Constellation is the sort of thing) but she doesn't like the idea of regularly re-setting the time (automatics out, even COSC), doesn't want to be changing batteries, and needs water proof for swimming (100m). Therefore we are back to Citizen Ecodrive. I have spotted this watch ..read more

Watches in shop windows.

Remembering @Roger the Dodger' recent post regarding the Citizen in the Portuguese shop window, I noticed an alarming amount of quartz watches on display in local shops running in "end of life mode" (second hand jumping 2 seconds etc), and a Tissot mechanical pocket watch that has sat in the same place since 2009. Who buys these, if at all, and if they don't sell, where do they go ..read more

Nomos fetish?

Happy Monday All, So I appear to have developed a Nomos fetish!  I just love the bright colours and the smart yet casual design.  The red was the first one in the box and then earlier this year I took a gamble on the deep pink.  I'm very glad that I did as the colour is just stunning.  The (future) orange was a recent long service award from my company - very hard to track down (apparently there's a 6-10 month waiting list for this one?!) but Chisolm Hunter came through for me.  In the past I've also owned silver, blue and white dial versions but those have moved on. An interesting retro Invicta.

Well done to those who clicked on a thread with Invicta in the title I have been looking for a 1953 for ages and in my search, I've seen many oversized Invicta watches, not to my taste, but live and let live. There are a few nicer smaller watches, but they tend to be Pro divers or Glycines. However, I did stumble on this model that might be of interest. It harks back to the era when mechanical digital watches were a thing. I'm not sure wen that was, but I presume late 60s or early 70s before the quartz crisis. I think it captures the era quite well and at 38mm is probably quite wearable. Her ..read more

It has been a little while since I've bought any watches...it was such a dry spell that I didn't think that I should be a member of the forum, but I've bought five this week, and I thought I'd show two of them. Bought to keep, not bought to flip. They arrive tomorrow as a family member picked them up from Edinburgh for me. Plastic watches with a quartz movement...why am I looking forward to seeing them  Is there an 'incoming' for anyone else ..read more
