In the midst of a band’s pandemonium, a small woman lies on the ground, thrashing and stomping. The crowd’s roars reverberate. Her boots thud to the beat of the drums and guitars. Suddenly, she rises to the microphone, exuding unsettling calmness and deliberate grace. In her resoundingly remarkable voice, the now-timid singer delivers haunting lines of vulnerability and poignant observation.
I only write songs about things that I'm scared of,
So here, now you’re deathless in art.

This is a weekly show by a DJ in Calgary, Alberta, Sideshow Sid. I began listening to his former show, The Musiquarium, since about 2005 and when that show ended I feared for a bleak funkless future. However, Sid returned with this masterpiece show called Diggin' in the Crates. He plays pre-millenial (<2000 year) music only - mostly from vinyl, tapes, CDs, and even 8-tracks from his collection. Sideshow's deep dive into rare groove and funk leaves a wake of wavy events, thicc waves of funk washing through your quandrant of the universe, renewing your faith in the glory of music. With a kee ..read more

Todd Mosby
(from the Todd Mosby website) An award winning musician from Missouri with jazz, folk-rock and Indian raga influences, Todd Mosby is a musical storyteller and landscape artist. He uses the guitar to whisk listeners away to a borderless realm where jazz, North Indian, composition and folk-rock create transformative experiences.
I was sent in this album this week and I though it was intriguing because of the sun imagery, and because its called Land of Enchantment. When I started to listen to the album it reminded me of the new music coming out now a days. This album had a lot of the ..read more

By Jimmy of Brushing My Teeth To Merzbow
It was August of 2022. I had just driven Anchorage to McCarthy to hike Bonanza Mine with my friend (who I picked up at 6 am), hiked that hike in about 5 hours even though it was supposed to take 6-8, and was now leaving McCarthy at 10 pm. I say all of that only to emphasize I was absolutely physically and mentally exhausted.
Anyone who has driven to McCarthy knows that it’s an unpaved mess of potholes and narrow passes. As I drove into the dark, swerving around ditches and getting blinde ..read more

During the first week of February, Fairbanks hosted a double feature weekend of music by Anchorage band, Medium Build. Hailing from Southcentral AK, Medium Build ventured up into the interior for a one-weekend, two-show stop. Their performances spanned across the Golden Heart City, starting out their sub-arctic tour with a classic UAF Pub Friday night, to a second appearance in the core of downtown at The Venue, on Saturday.
(above, Health album cover)
Concertgoers were lined up outside of the doors of the Pub by 8pm, standing aimlessly while the bands soundchecked and tested out the f ..read more

If you are looking for a modern and chill band, MICHELLE is the one to look for. This band out of New York has a pop sound while also staying in the indie arena. MICHELLE is a collective band of 6 sometimes 7 people, and they have played at many places in the US and in Europe. What’s unique is having 4 vocalists rather than having one main singer. In the summer, they will be playing at the Governors Ball alongside other artists like Lizzo, Odesza and Kendrick Lemar. They will also be playing at Spring Fest here in Fairbanks at SpringFest! Their music has combinations of west coast grit, with ..read more

review of UAU: Soundscapes and Ant Acoustics of the Brazilian Amazon (DL) by Lisa
Schonberg (Doktor Exoskeleton)
http://www.lisaschonberg.com/store/uau-music-for-percussion-soundscapes-and-ant-acoustics-

This work is a blend of science and art, juxtiposing audio from microhabitats of the Brazilian
Amazon with human percussion. Lisa is one of those rare creatures with expertise in two very
different disciplines. Her work rhythmically amplifies the beauty of nature's alien-like
soundscapes. I was first introduced to music-nature mashups by the Paul Winter Consort who
