At 11:08 am on December 30th, 2021, Boulder County emergency operators dispatched firefighters to an area near Highway 93 and Marshall road to investigate reports of smoke in the vicinity.  Twelve minutes later, at 11:20am, firefighters and a park ranger near the area spot the first fire.
