Alaska Riverside Engagement

It won’t be hard to tell from the photos that the connection between these two is electric! Normally it takes the first part of a session to help people feel comfortable, praise and direct them into confidence photographically. But Mia and Eric came into the engagement session willing to wear their hearts on their sleeves and from the moment I lifted my camera they were all-in. Mia and Eric’s actual wedding plan was foiled due to reasons beyond their control. They had setback after setback and eventually had to move out of state. This engagement session was thrown together last-minute and we p ..read more

Alaska Misty Mountain Couples Session

We grew up in the Mat-Su valley, so we have an extra soft spot for Hatcher Pass and love it when we get to photograph in our most sentimental, fav part of Alaska. It’s such a beautiful place with easy access to amazing views. One thing we have always loved (and also drives us crazy) is how moody the weather can be up in the mountains. Weather systems roll in-and-out without a lot of warning. Sometimes the views can be lost. Sometimes it’s wet or uncomfortable. But it never really looks exactly the same, it knows how to keep our interest, how to captivate. The mountains rolled out a carpet of f ..read more

Isabella wanted something a little different than the iconic but typical Alaska scenery for her senior photos. So, we shot in an outdoor museum stocked full of authentic Alaska vintage trains and locomotives and it did not disappoint!!! If you have followed us for any length of time, you know that we are color junkies and this spot feeds our addiction to amazing tones and textures and variety. There are endless options, so we never get bored. And LOOK at Bella. Heart eyes over here ..read more

I (Hanna) was pregnant with my first child at the same time as my sister-in-law (Angela). Gideon and Jocelynn were the first two to enter the world and lead the pack of what would eventually become 14 crazy cousins. Our kids grew up shoulder-to-shoulder, same pregnancies, same town, same schools. I’m not sure how many sleepovers we have swapped but it is probably in the thousands. Jocelynn is my niece but feels more like an extra daughter at times. One of my recent sessions was extra special because I got to carve out yet another memory with her: senior photos. It is hard to imagine that this ..read more

After weeks of rain, Alaska decided to bring out the sun in full force for Alexis’ senior session! Not gonna lie, I (Hanna) was a little nervous looking up at the cloudless, blazing midday sun. Those of you familiar with photography know that harsh light is in fact a very harsh, mean girl. She is just the rudest. Skin tones get washed out, client’s struggle and squint, contrasty shadows are relentless and unflattering. You have to be extremely intentional about how and why and what direction you shoot in. And if you really want to go for the gold, might as well shoot on a white mud strip and a ..read more

Dear Gideon, I named you Gideon because it was the strongest and bravest name I could think of. It means mighty warrior and man of valor. I always loved the Bible story of Gideon, the reluctant warrior, the unexpected leader. He questioned his own ability and worthiness to lead his people to victory, but heard the voice of the Lord and bravely obeyed despite his own fear. He led only 300 men against the entire Midianite army, an impossible feat. The night of battle, Gideon gave each man a trumpet and a torch concealed inside a pottery jar. At his signal, they blew their trumpets, broke the jar ..read more

We LOVE it when clients requests sessions on their personal properties. There is just something about sentimentality, about the roots of who you are, about the comfort of home. Mae wanted her senior photos to have a strong Alaska vibe but feel familiar. 50 years from now she will be able to look back on these photos and remember a lot more than the process of taking them. She will remember HOME: long days of play on the lake, the forest ferns swaying in the summer breeze next to moms garden, fish struggling up the creek current, the train echoing in the distance. These are parts of her childho ..read more
