Following up to my post Creating a Smart Home – we’re finally getting smart switches! I have wanted these for so long and after having one in our media room (completed in December 2020), we love the convenience and just all-around “cool” factor of the smart switch. We love peoples reactions when we turn the lights on by asking our Google Assistant. Or adjusting the dimmer to the perfect level without having to get up or look at our phone. ::heaven:: Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch in our media room I got a late start with Amazon Prime Day(s). I knew it was coming and I still didn’t prepare any posts ..read more

Who else likes pretty pillows? But do you like the high price tag usually attached to them? I honestly don’t know how I went so long without pillows in our home but I was stubborn and refused to pay a high price for them. Even going as far as creating some of my own covers for 2 pillows in the living room that were very lonely for a while. Also, I’m not great at sewing, so…. I had the fabric and IKEA inserts for more but just never got around to it. Then I found Woven Nook a few years ago and was amazed by their beautiful and reasonably priced pillow covers. Which they started offering spec ..read more

My Peloton Bike Alternative

Back in December of 2017, the Peloton Bike was extremely popular and I really wanted one. I tried to convince myself we could make it work but my husband, fortunately, talked some sense into me. As a DIYer, I’m used to finding a way to get something similar to what I want for less money. So, I started my research. What did I need for my Peloton Bike Alternative? The app, the bike, and a way to measure the metrics needed to successfully follow along on a ride. The App The only way to access the Peloton app back in 2017/2018 without owning a bike was to have an Apple device. Yeah, we’re not App ..read more

I started a small online boutique called PoP Market Co. Long story short, I had a blog with a friend called Pieces of Pretty that unfortunately never launched. It was such a great name that we had spent so much time brainstorming on, that I didn’t want to let it go. We had been using the short name PoP whenever we talked about it, so that was in my head too. I decided to keep the blog “Pieces of Pretty” and call the shop “PoP Market”. When I signed up for an LLC, Co. just made sense. PoP Market Co. was born! The idea is to have limited stock (we only have so much room) of items that I love f ..read more

Are you creating a smart home or considering it? It can be overwhelming with all of the options and the rapidly changing technologies out there. Slowly, we’ve been adding to our smart home setup piece by piece. Here are the things I’ve learned and how we have been approaching this newer aspect in homeownership. One of our Nest Indoor Cameras helping us to keep an eye on things.1. Choose the base system wisely We approached choosing the base system of our smart home by considering the voice assistant we use most. The first smart speaker we had in the house was an Amazon Echo Dot. We purchased ..read more

Selling our Camper

We are selling our 23′ 1990 Layton Travel Trailer – lovingly renovated over the last few years. Easy to pull and maneuver with, doesn’t restrict stops on road trips – we never really worried about smaller roads, going through cities or which gas station to choose…until we got a bigger camper. This is bittersweet and difficult for me. On one hand, she deserves to be used and enjoyed and making new memories instead of sitting in our driveway or in storage. On the other hand, we put so much work into her and made so many amazing memories – I just want to keep her with us. Our hope is that som ..read more

I started the post below back in March – before COVID-19 started spreading in the U.S. and most of us went on lockdown. Hope everyone is staying safe during this time! I can’t believe it’s March already. As slow as January seemed to be, February flew by in the blink of an eye. Most of both months were spent finishing up projects and cleaning out the house and there’s a lot more to go, because, S T U F F. But we finally got to the point where we can start our guest bathroom renovation. It’s been over 5 years of living in half our house while the other half just sat there waiting for its turn ..read more
