A paraglider pilot (f, 53) made a very hard landing near Tow Scar, Kingsdale, and was then dragged along the ground by her canopy, sustaining very painful rib and possibly back and pelvic injuries. North Yorkshire Police called CRO after someone, believed to be dead, was seen on the ground beneath Malham Cove. A small team searched a ledge above the site, then the Cove edge itself for personal effects. Once police formalities had been concluded, the deceased was stretchered to a team Land Rover, driven down to the car park and transferred to an ambulance.   ..read more

A walker (m, 58) beginning the descent from Little Ingleborough to Gaping Gill tripped on a protruding rock. In falling forward with arms outstretched, he suffered a suspected shoulder dislocation. The walking group leader rang 999, asked for ‘police’, then ‘mountain rescue’ and gave an accurate ten-figure grid reference. A Border Collie dog fell 25 or 30m from the top of Giggleswick Quarry, landing on a ledge which is covered in loose rock. NYF&RS’s Settle firefighters attended, then members of CRO were called. Mike Meredith, 79, an enthusiastic caver and former Controller with the Cave Rescue Organisation was found dead at his house in Kuching, Sarawak, on the morning of Wednesday 11th January 2023.
