When most people think of serial killers and perhaps the most prolific of them all, a woman's name isn't the first to spring to mind.
The act of murder is not solely exclusive to just men but…it’s statistically proven that serial killers are more likely to be male.
However, what if I told you it may just be possible that the most prolific serial killer in history was an Italian woman who over a period of almost 20 years racked up around 600 victims.
Today on Macabre Mini Mysteries, we uncover the story of Giulia Tofana, the make-up murderess.

It will come as no surprise that in the late 19th century, people who had any kind of disability were treated differently.
Those who had health conditions or impairments often faced social ostracization, couldn’t get jobs and often found themselves down and out without any prospects,
and in a cut throat Victorian oppressive society, this meant that life could be a very uncomfortable ride.
But, for one man, he used the public fascination in his disability to his advantage to make a living, but sadly his story descended into a raw and tragic tale of Victorian exploitation, one which would end ..read more

In the 1700’s it was very easy to socially scam your way into a living. Certain local parish schemes set up to supposedly mutually benefit those in need and those who could offer an apprenticeship, could easily be abused. For one household, they fully gamed the system and came up trumps being paid for three apprentices from three different parishes, all of whom didn’t know about each other.
The girls were exploited, used for free labour and treated so badly that one of them would end up in an early grave.
