Separation in the can of Rublev Colours Lead Oil and Lead Alkyd Ground is normal. All that is required is to stir the contents of the can very well. This may require that you use a paint stirring stick to scrape the bottom of the can very well to re-incorporate all the pigment that settles to the bottom. There should be no chunks of solid primer. If there is, these should be removed or stained out. These do not occur under normal storage conditions ..read more

My Lead White primer separated in the Tin ?

I paint on ACM panels. I prime the panels with two coats of Lead White Primer and lightly sand between coats. The Rublev lead white primer I use separated in the tin and I finish up with a big chunk of lead . Question for George ? Can I use the lead by grinding it with a solvent or is is fit for nothing more than throwing away. ? When my lead white number 2 oil paint, which I love using, separates in the tube and goes hard, I cut it out of the tube and re-grind with Walnut Oil using a muller and slab of granite. When I’m finished I store the oil paint in a very small little jar, perfect for us ..read more

Hi Michelle, Thank you for your comments. I’m a second generation artist and I’ve learned a great deal from my father as well as studying and graduating from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. You are right in your comments but how does one make sure that he/she preserves works and takes care of them in the best possible way? Can you tell me or recommend a book where I can review my practice of oil painting? Thank you very much. Nadia ..read more

Hi George, I’m slowly making progress on my varnish disaster. With a lot of patience and Shellsol A, I’m finally getting back to square one. I think I’m ready to take the varnishing course and I attempted to purchase it yesterday, Order #14019, but once again the link did not arrive. I’m not sure what I have messed up in my profile that I have such a hard time with the links, but in any case would you please send it along? I would greatly appreciate it. Kind regards, Jody ..read more

I mix my own Regalrez, that has been really easy to do. With proper drying time and cleaning before varnishing, the results have been very good. Also, lead oil grounds have improved my results over the acrylic primers/gessoes. Finding a solvent for the Laropal has been more cumbersome..
