Last chance for Specs

Finally made it out to the Brookie grounds over the weekend (late post).   I usually like to go shortly after opener, but didn't get a chance earlier in the season so I figured I would make a little trip before its too late. It was muggy out and the sun wasn't too bad, but the bite was on and I got a limit just before the storm rolled in. Late season though the weeds were high as heck and thick. I also stocked up on some big creek chubs that get used as Tip-up bait for ice fishing.      ..read more

Pier fishing West Lake Ontario

Made it out for a few hours on a local west end pier and managed 1 male Chinook around 18 pounds.  Fish hit a glow wonder bread pete spoon in the tear drop shape.  Fish was released to swim another day.  Saw 2 other chinnies caught and the bite died right off at midnight.  Still quite a few fish jumping when I left at 1:30.       Get out to your local pier and don't forget the net!  Lots of fish to come in still with the dry weather!   Tightlines   Salmonman ..read more

Port Dalhousie

From browsing some past posts it seems that Port Dalhousie may not be the most welcoming of places for non locals .With the cooler evenings lately I was wondering if various species where starting to hold in the channel . Not being a local is this a problem for fishing from the bank during weekdays .I am taking tomorrow off and need to decide if it’s Port Dalhousie or the Old Welland canal with a kayak or canoe putting in at the Welland Community Boathouse ..read more

We are Lake Erie Day

Something we should all be aware of since Erie is a big part of our fishing lives...   These governments committed to reducing nutrient pollution entering the western basin of Lake Erie by 40 per cent by 2025 — which is next year. Yet, no updates have been provided and every summer the algal blooms return, pushing that target further out of reach.   https://www.thespec.com/opinion/contributors/wearelakeerie-day-reminds-governments-to-follow-through-on-promises-to-save-lake-erie/article_a7fe12e5-2dbd-5bf2-a7be-660b63f22423.html ..read more

Honey Harbour family getaway

Got away for our annual summer getaway in Honey Harbour two weeks ago. Normally I don't do much fishing there as try to dedicate the week to spending time with the family, skiing, tubing, etc.   My two youngest wanted to get out a few times so they didn't have to twist my arm. Caught a lot of bass and a few pike with this one being her personal best and enjoyed rubbing it in with her brother! ha   My son was targeting the bass with top water baits, which I do enjoy as well, but rarely do. The annual Timmins adventure

Was out in the Timmins area again this year, up on Horwood lake.  Along with us was my 80 year old mother who loves fishing.  Walleye were tough to find because of the heat, staying on the bottom in 30-40ft.  Same with the pike.   perch and smallies were just crazy. Plenty of good sized perch. As for the smallmouth, I lost track of how many footballs we boated. These are not Erie type fish.  They do not get the length, but they are as round as they are long. We boated hundreds of fish over 5 days, and that was with only fishing 1/2 days.  The afternoons were ..read more
