Food addiction is a force that functions in your mind and heart separately from your conscious thought or will. It is a composition of many areas of your life, some good, some bad, some awful. Many of your negative childhood experiences are recorded in Gertrude’s belief system, especially negative thoughts and ideas that were spoken to you.  Criticisms too, have been recorded into a voice in your brain that I call Gertrude. Do you have someone sitting around in your brain telling you that you are fat, stupid and ugly, hopeless and unlovable? This person always uses the word “You” never th ..read more

Happy Thursday!

Last Thursday was the day of the summer solstice. What does that mean? It is the time which officially starts astronomical summer as the longest day and shortest night of the year. This happens when the Earth’s North Pole is tilted closest to the sun. It also is the point where the earth is furthest from the Sun in its orbital path. Following this day, daylight hours gradually decrease. So, we on the north are closer to the sun than those in the South. We get longer hours of daylight, some days as much as fifteen hours of daylight. Why does this matter? And why write a blog about it a wee ..read more

Hello and welcome to the first June blog. I want to start again with some good news, and some other news… The good news; Please help me welcome our new secretary, Molly. She just started on Monday and (yay!) she is really good on the computer! So hopefully my writings will be more regular and your answers will come smoother. The hair news: I counted! Every person who has seen me in the last two weeks likes my hair. They say it looks younger on me. That is kind, and it feels really weird to have everybody agree! I am struggling with writing this blog this week; I am struggling with a lot of str ..read more

I started a blog for you last weekend. I had a really good idea and half the blog flowed out, then I was called away, and the next time I had time to get back here was nine days later! And I just spent a full half hour looking for the blog I started more than a week ago! I have searched everywhere; it just isn’t here. But I remember what I wanted to talk about so here we go again! The good news: My book, “The Sane Food Solution” has been accepted by a publisher. After twenty years of arguing with myself about it, starting it, then using that “chapter” as a handout for a program, and setting it ..read more

My apologies, friends, for missing TWO WEEKS of Blogs! First, there was a surprise trip to see the Eclipse; then there was a whole group of chaos-es, and finally, I must report, that the first draft of my book “The Sane Food Solution” went off for revision. The eclipse was wonderful; my husband and I had not been away, probably since the pandemic, and it was so nice to have that time and space and an incredibly magnificent eclipse to watch.  I have been writing and thinking about writing this book for more than twenty years so, I am glad to have begun. What made me begin? Why you did, of ..read more

Weighing and Measuring Part 2

So how is it going for you? Did you try a week of weighing and measuring? How was it? Was it easy? Hard? Scary?  And here is my big question: When you weighed and measured, was it enough? Did you feel satisfied? Do you need a change? We may not want to, or know how to do the behaviors that will lead to the changes we want. So, we need to try new behaviors and give them a chance, to see how well they work for us. Weighing and measuring your food, if you haven’t done it regularly, is a big change. To stop eating the foods you are sensitive to, is probably a bigger change. If you are doing t ..read more

STRESS versus SELF CARE
Renaissance Nutrition Center

Last blog, we talked about stress: how hard it is to manage and how stressful our lives have become. I gave you some suggestions about managing stress, and this week I want to talk about taking care of ourselves. Self-care is not Selfish! Self-care means taking the time to meet our own needs, hopefully without hurting others in the process. It means we put a priority and a value on doing what needs to be done for our bodies, minds, and spirits. That could mean, I get time to go to the grocery or to order my groceries and pick them up. (What a nifty idea!) I get time to plan and prepare my meal ..read more

STRESS!!

Hello. Thanks for opening this Blog. I have struggled for some time on what to write for these blogs, and the last two weeks have been no exception. The stress level in my life has been just enormous and I have struggled to keep on top of everything that needs to be done. So, a wise one said to me, “So why don’t you write the blog about handling stress?” So here I am and here is what I think. Managing stress and getting everything done on time is one of the hardest things we ever need to do. Life just grows, and problems grow every time I turn my back to take a deep breath! So, what do we do w ..read more

IT IS OVER!

NOW WHAT? Happy New Year! I hope this season of celebration has brought you great joy and wonder, and the sense of being loved and having your rightful place in the world. The tsunami of gifts, and parties, and difficult-to handle foods is now ending and we can hopefully get back to our usual, normal lives. And enjoy some peace and quiet? Not for me. As I go back to my normal stuff, I see so much that I want to change. I want to organize all the papers I wrote names and phone numbers on, of people to call, and I “reorganized” them. In the process I took a few hours to look up the addresses and ..read more
