Website additions and upcoming event

I went back to an old layout because so much is behind paywalls now, and because I can’t edit a lot of the themes properly on a device that’s accessible to me. I added some older projects to the Appearances page. I’m also going to be speaking at Finding Polyam Communities, a free online summit on August 19th. You can find out more and register here ..read more

A website overhaul is coming by 1/24/2023

I’m redoing the website. All the blog posts are coming down except some of the news and a few library- and book-related posts, while the polyamory-related content will be a part of my upcoming book with Kevin A. Patterson of Poly Role Models, based on our workshop Cautionary Polyamory. This means if you’re seeing this because you’re subscribed to the blog posts, you might want to find me on Facebook or Patreon (where some of my posts are public, or you can see all my posts starting for $1/month). This isn’t to put myself behind a paywall but rather to make each platform as distinct as I can. F ..read more

Buy books as presents 2022: Part 2
The Polyamorous Librarian

Welcome to part 2 of my recommendations for purchased based solely on books I enjoyed this year as someone who reads a lot, but not all new books, and doesn’t really stick to one genre. That said, I do have this habit I haven’t shaken after years of librarianship to be quite the YA reader still, so this list is a bit YA heavy but hits sci-fi, horror, romance, and a “remixed” retelling. Also, for some reason, I read more fantasy than sci-fi this year. I blame last year’s Hugo slate, which had some amazing books and authors who have stayed on my radar. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t point o ..read more

I’m a contributor for the new book Preconceived: Challenging the Preconceptions of Our Lives. Here’s the copy: “Do you ever feel like you are simply going through the motions?  Many of our paths adhere to traditional societal expectations. And beyond the choices we make, do you ever wonder if your general opinions and viewpoints are overly influenced by society at large?  From a young age, we are exposed both to practices we take for granted as normal, and social and political opinions that become so ingrained in us that they are tough to ever shake.

I do miss blogging
The Polyamorous Librarian

I’m officially an Old. I miss blogs and Livejournal, Facebook when it was more functional. I miss MUDs and BBSes and bulletin boards. I miss a life without algorithms and ads without autoplay. Mostly I miss talking about books on days when I don’t feel like recording myself. I miss being indulgent about what I say. No one is indulgent on the internet anymore. That’s not safe. Even people who are only a little famous, or have a medium-sized following, have to put up with the ongoing seen-ness of being online. Even I had someone monitoring my anonbox for a while due to harassment, and who am I ..read more

Ted Lasso frustration
The Polyamorous Librarian
by polyamorouslibrarian

Contains spoilers for both seasons of Ted Lasso Twitter shows me lots of Ted Lasso posts. Mostly TedBecca posts, which is fine, great, I’m on board though not a shipper, per se; I do see how the show is likely heading in that direction. But after the Big-Though-Unsurprising Reveal of Ted’s Dad’s Death–I think I saw a fan guess and felt like that was on the money–and Ted’s story about his dad staying up all night for him, I was livid, and I keep being livid because other than TedBecca posts all I see are “Nate Sucks” and “Ted is A Perfect Marshmallow” posts. Are we talking about the same guy? A ..read more

Cookbook!

So I’m going through my list of upcoming books I need to read before they publish, and I saw Nachos for Dinner, which honestly was not my best choice for “book to read after I killed a bag of chips and a container of Shop Rite salsa over the course of 24 hours” but only because now I can’t even attempt a version of any recipes of this cookbook. Last time I got an advanced copy of a cookbook, I thought, “Maybe cookbooks aren’t for me, I’m being a picky book snob” blah blah blah, but no, it was absolutely that cookbook, because this one didn’t do any of the things that previously annoyed me–well ..read more
