I have just been really taken aback by what has unfolded over the last week. I was a student leader on my campus and Hillel President and I can’t imagine what it must be like for some students right now. It's hard to see the left of America back Hamas in this war. As a liberal myself, I see the Jewish population as the blacks of the Middle East - the minority. And then I see liberal folks defending a country who gives women no rights, against LGBTQ+ and democracy, and are living in the dark ages with their torturous methods. My youngest is a college junior at a good state university and has been very supported by Hillel (before this year and especially during). Went to a large first night Seder and felt Jewish joy. Thing is, my kid was overwhelmed before the seder at the size of the event. But then said, even though there has been antisemitism on campus and they have felt anxious about safety this year, it seemed like their campus is safe. The writing is on the wall for American Jews. We will no longer feel safe to be visibly Jewish in American public. I just want to say this for everyone who may be stuck on it. People (anti-zionists?) often bring up how Israel had a few proposed areas, such as Russia, South America, wherever else, deserted islands? They bring this up as if we should have gone somewhere else, not Palestine. And all of this is happening because Palestine was decided on instead of another place. Has anyone come across this wave of people telling you “ you are paranoid”? Or telling you what is or isn’t racist towards Jews? This would never fly with any other race, ethnic group , or religion. Yo, I'm not a practicing Jew, but I am of heritage and Queer and I'm so sad right now. I guess I'm just finding out the hard way that alot of TNG LGBTQ folks are engaging in blatant antisemitism.
