Hi,   Recently I have been working on anti-fungal bioassay to testing some compounds in the clear 96-well plate. I took fungal growth picture using my cell phone, but the wells close to the sides are not pictured well. Can anyone recommend a imaging system for 96-well plate, which can provide even images for all 96 wells?   Thanks ..read more

Microorganism ID Request

The images are from an infected urinary tract urine sample.   The unidentified microorganism is shown in images A, B and C. In image A1 the speckled background is the bacteria Enterococcus Faecalis. The inserts to the right of that are other instances of the same organism as they appear in free flowing fluid. The images B and C show how it changes after being left squashed between two glass slides for a few days.   If no one can identify it exactly just finding out what type of microorganism it is will help.   Attached Thumbnails ..read more

I'm not sure if I have been given a trick question, to catch me out?   I believe these images to be a joint infection of Candida and Staph.   I'm only a student of Microbiology, at present, so is there anything I am missing looking at these pictures?   I understand it to be taken from a patients sinus sample, is that even possible? As thought this type of infection is commonly just found in the oral cavity?   Is there any research that supports this?  Attached Thumbnails ..read more

Hi,   I have established stable cell lines in the past by plasmid overexpression and also by crisper technology. Im new to lentivirus stable cell line generation an would appreciate any advice.   This is my understanding:   1. transfection of 293T cells with lentiviral vector and packaging plasmids 2. After 48hrs or 73 hrs, collect  the supernatant and spin at 3000g, RT, 15min 3. Filter the supernatant through a 0.45um filter to remove cells and store at -80deg Celsius 4. grow target cells in 6 well plates. At 60% confluency, change o medium containing polybrene 5 ..read more

Hi there. I am involved in bioburden testing and grow fungi on SDA agar. I am required to count the fungi however sometimes the colonies grow over each other or there is just a white carpet of fungi where I can't pinpoint where the colony started or how many there are. The colonies must be grown for seven days. If any one has any advise I would be grateful. I do have some photos on my phone but can't figure out how to upload them ..read more

Hello all,   I recently grew some algea and took a few pictures of the foam visible in the culture. I am wondering if I am simple seeing foam or a combination of foam and algae or ?   See pictures attached. It looks like foam, but in some I can see something that looks like a nucleus. I am also wondering about the coloration. I guess the foam becomes green due to death algea?   thanks in advance. Attached Thumbnails ..read more
