For the month of April 2024 you can download the “Yannik” Men’s Shirt Pattern from the Inspiration Magazine for free!  I made this shirt for my boyfriend as he felt the style fulfilled a gap in his wardrobe. Despite the casual style with its loose shape, I feel that the shirt is still very versatile and that’s largely due to the choice of fabric. We chose a Double Gauze fabric as it has a good weight without being heavy and the fine cotton weave is very cool for our hot Summers. I love how the colour of the blue fabric varies in different lighting and sometimes looks more grey. The Cuban ..read more

Hello sewists, and welcome back to the long-awaited part 3 in the making of my Summer Haze quilt! If you missed it, part 1 was all about piecing the quilt top, and part 2 featured quilting it in the hoop with the BERNINA Clamp hoop – so much work, but so much fun! Today, I’m finishing the quilt with a machine embroidered label, and adding the binding. This quilt is a gift for my sister’s new baby, and I ended up waiting until he was born so that I could add his name to the label, and then of course life got in the way a little bit and it took me an extra month after he was born to get all my d ..read more

BERNINA Corporate Blog

I previously blogged about attending my cousin’s wedding and the wrap top I made. This blog post is about the matching skirt I created to complete the outfit. I love circle skirts as they can be very flattering and comfortable. There are 3 types of circle skirts: Quarter, Half and Full. The names refer to the shape of the skirt when cut out. Circle skirts incorporate the bias grain (the diagonal grain across the fabric) which has a natural stretch and beautiful drape. Below I share instructions to draft your own Quarter and Half Circle Skirt. I chose to make a Quarter Circle skirt as I wanted ..read more

IT’S EASTER! LET’S BE CREATIVE! IT’S EASTER! LET’S BE CREATIVE! Easter is a time for friends and family and of course we want to decorate our homes according to the season or in this case, the religious holidays. I wanted something that is easy to create but still challenging to keep me interested so I created this little Easter wreath. HOW I DESIGNED THIS EASTER WREATH I used a circular ruler to draw the circle as a guide. For the Easter eggs, I made templates of the outline only and copied these onto my fabric. It is a good idea to space these at regular intervals. DESIGNING MY PATTERN usin ..read more
