Confirmed by Lufty this was a training flight. Almost certainly ZFT. The 747 is relatively easy to land nicely, flare and reduce power at the auto call out of 30 feet and it just trundles on. This looked like no flare, the aircraft naturally reduces descent rate at around 100 feet so you have to keep the pressure on to stay on the glidepath and ignore what your eyes are telling you, especially if you've come off a 737!

@rikur_ @riverrock Thanks - that's helpful. Should we go ahead with PV+battery, the installer will worry about the specs of the cables themselves, I just don't to waste my time/money installing a duct which wouldn't work for them.
also worth adding - taking a few photos of the duct as it is installed showing it at the appropriate depth with a tape measure might help. Otherwise you may find some more diligent installers are unwilling to give you a certificate for the job, as they can't be sure the cable is at the requisite depth.

It's almost May.
If we wanted to drive we'd need the scrapers out to clear the windscreens.
And the postie is wearing shorts.
It seems a national thing.
Why? What's it all about?

So I was due to fly again yesterday (Thursday) so I checked the weather first think, looking like it was going to be the short RWY04 and light breeze.
I then went out early on my bike (I'm riding LEJOG for charity in July, and although with work I only had time for a quick 18 mile blast, every training mile counts). I rode the whole thing talking to myself, every radio call over and over and over until I had it nailed to a BUMFICHH level of competence and talked myself around the circuit. I was working from home, so over lunch did a few circuits on 04RH on the sim, it still staggers me how al ..read more

It would be interesting to know the legal basis for charging to land on a beach, as the sea bed to high water mark is Crown property.

I’m in two minds whether it’s worth the hassle
I would say go for it! Do it anyway as a challenge, to expand your knowledge and experience. Whilst the licensing requirements present a (very small) obstacle, look towards the enjoyment and reward.
