I have been trying to obtain a solid product from reaction mixture for some time now and need urgent help with it as my prof is kinda useless. Here is the brief description: Trying to synthesize N-alkyl halide derivative of isatin. REACTION DONE: Dissolve pure isatin in DMF solvent, added K2CO3 and corresponding alkyl halide. Stirred for around 24hrs. Added NH4Cl to reaction mixture and extracted by washing with ethyl acetate. Dried ethyl acetate using sodium sulfate and also brine solution. The final ethyl acetate layer becomes goo or oily after rotavap and i need help solidifying this.

As chemistry professionals frequently dealing with process upsets, what protocols would you recommend for verifying the integrity of chloride ion concentration data that suggest significant deviations, potentially due to exchanger leaks, specifically when levels are reported to exceed 100ppm?

I'm starting in chromatography. I'm an undergraduate student and recently I was offered a scholarship opportunity in a research on the quantification of endogenous corticosteroids by HPLC. This picture is from the first reading I did after finally learning to set up a run in LcSolution ? I did 10 readings, and I noticed that in all of them, there's this valley in the chromatogram, just before two minutes into the run. What could that be? I changed the mobile phase before. Is it some kind of contamination?

I am looking to export from Empower some raw UV-VIS data in AIA/CDF format but face the following issue:
I have created an export method, selected the export directory and selected that an AIA file should be created in the Raw Data tab of the Export method.
In the Results tab, I select the samples to export, right click and select Export...
In the Export dialog, I am selecting the export method and press OK.
BUT: No file is created in the export directory. No warning is shown. Nothing in the message center.
Did anybody experience such an issue?
I am sure I did everything discussed in the KB ..read more

Hello everyone! I am working on an Agilent 1100 equipped with a degasser, quaternary pump, autosampler, and DAD.
Our problem is that the modules are recognized and have green icons, but ChemStation says it’s “not ready” in red.
When I launch and hit “start”, chemstation will turn blue, then countdown from 10.0 with “nRdy”. Does anyone have advice on how to fix this issue so we can run our samples?
Thanks in advance.

I did a bachelor's in chem and a master's in organic chem, and have been working at the bench on small molecules / PROTACs for big pharma for a few years. The way the winds are blowing for me now I think I need a career change. I think I'd like to get away from the bench. Beyond that I'm open to almost any kind of work (not sales, lol). I'm hoping to get a few good suggestions about where to look next.

After travelling to Europe and the USA gaining postdoctoral experience I’m now applying for lecturer jobs in the UK. Which there are none, and when they crop up I can’t seem to get an interview. This is brutal and exhausting.

I want to work part time but don't want to stop being a chemist. It doesn't seem like these jobs exist. Do you or anyone you know work part time as a chemist? What do you do? How did you find it?
